Regina (Jeanne Englehart) Axtman passed away May 23, 2013 surrounded by her loving family.
Regina Elizabeth Englehart was born September 20, 1926 to Henry and Barbara (Steffan) Englehart. She lived and grew up in Devils Lake, ND. She attended St. Mary’s High School and worked at Woolworths as a young woman.
Jeanne married Conrad (Kenneth) Axtman on May 15, 1945 while Ken was home on leave from the Army. When Ken was discharged they moved to Southam, ND where they farmed and raised Diary cattle until 1967 when they moved to Crary, ND for a year while a new home was being built in Devils Lake. When they moved to the new house, Jeanne and Ken sold Watkins and started Kens Karpet Kare until they retired. Jeanne enjoyed working side by side with Ken like they did their entire life. In 2003 they sold their home and moved into an apartment.
Jeanne was active in many things. She volunteered as a 4H leader and was a member of Southam Homemakers for many years. Jeanne was a member of St. Benedict’s Christian Mothers, the Catholic Daughters, and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Jeanne loved to bowl and was in Coffee League, Night League and Mixed Doubles. Jeanne loved to go out dancing every weekend with Ken and their many friends. They also went on camping trips with friends.
Jeanne and Ken have two children; Don (Cathe) Axtman of Fargo and Cindy (Darrold) Schall of North Mankato, MN. She was a great Mom, Grandmother and Great Grandmother.
Jeanne has five grandchildren: Terri Schall Birchem, John (Amy) Schall, Becky (deceased)(Dan) Hewitt, Shelly Axtman and Cheri (Shawn) Jerger.
Jeanne has eleven great grandchildren: Don’s grandchildren are Paige and Maddy-Cindy’s grandchildren are Chastine, Kaeley, Kalley, Emily, Anna, Halley, Taylor, Noah and Mary Jo. She loved all her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Jeanne is survived by three sisters Helen Bye, Jenny Pulst of Devils Lake, ND and Fran (Don) Farmen of Costa Mesa, CA; brother Bob (Carolyn) Englehart of Fergus Falls, MN.
Jeanne is preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Barbara; loving husband, Ken who died on July 28,2005; her beautiful granddaughter Becky (Schall) Hewitt; sister Vivian Eng; brothers Charles Englehart and Henry Englehart Jr. and Jeanne’s father-in-law and mother-in-law Wendelin and Evelyn Axtman.
Jeanne will be greatly missed.
She will be laid to rest on June 4, 2013 beside her loving husband of 60 years in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Devils Lake. Her Mass of the Resurrection will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 4th. Visitation for Jeanne will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Monday, June 3rd, from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. The Rosary will be led by the Catholic Daughters of the Americas.
Music will be provided by Sherry Kurtz and JoDee Lagein. Casket Bearers will be Jeanne’s brother, Bob Englehart, her nephews, Dennis Magsam, Rick Bye, Darrell Bye and Bill Bye and her cousin, Kenny Engelhart. Gift Bearers will be her cousins, Toby Magsam and Leona Sten. Reading the Scriptures will be Bob Englehart.
