Karrol M. Olson, 69 of Devils Lake, ND passed away early Tuesday morning, June 11, 2013 at the Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.
Funeral Services for Karrol will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake. Fr. C.F. Wilhelm will celebrate the Mass and burial will be in the Devils Lake Cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded by the Neathery-Simensen Post #756, Devils Lake Veterans of Foreign Wars and the North Dakota Military Funeral Honors Team.
Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Friday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and visitation on Saturday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral Mass.
Karrol Myron Olson was born on November 11, 1943 in Devils Lake, ND the youngest child of Carl and Marie (Diseth) Olson. He was reared and educated in Edmore. Karrol enlisted in the United States Navy on November 30, 1961. He served his country during the Vietnam War with the 92nd Fighter Squadron. While serving in the Navy he married Ida Sparby and to this union a son, Darrell and daughter, Julie were born. Karrol was honorably discharged from active and reserve duty on November 29, 1967 with the rank of Airman.
On April 17, 1971, Karrol was united in marriage to Donna Mae Eback in Devils Lake. They established their home in the Lake Region area and they welcomed three more children to the family; daughter, Michelle and sons, Jason and Jeremy.
Karrol enjoyed being around family and friends. He had a love of horses. He enjoyed bowling in his younger years along with pool and darts and in later years, deer hunting and fishing.
Karrol was a member and trustee of the Devils Lake Eagles Lodge and also enjoyed membership in the Devils Lake Elks Lodge.
Karrol was employed by Dodge Town and the Devils Lake Chrysler Center for forty plus years and only retired in January of this year due to health problems.
Karrol is survived by his wife of 42 years, Donna; sons, Darrell Olson of Winger, MN, Jason Olson of Devils Lake and Jeremy (Shauna) Olson also of Devils Lake; daughters, Julie (Paul) Schow of McIntosh, MN and Michelle Johanson also of Devils Lake; nine grandkids, Kassi and Kain Schow, Jessica and Brianna Johanson, Gabbey Crough, Abbey, Allie, Nathan and Dylan Olson; sister, Alyce Soper of Devils Lake; brothers, Ola (Dorris) Olson of Yuma, AZ, LeRoy (Evelyn) Olson of Devils Lake and Erling Olson of Colorado Springs, CO; many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Karrol was preceded in eternal life by his parents; parents-in-law, John and Julia Eback; brothers, Einert Olson, Clifford Olson and Paul Nygard and sisters, Carolyne Smith and Margit Grenier.
Serving as Casket Bearers for Karrol will be Paul Neis, Richard Schwab, Justin Eback, Jordan Hahn, Jack Wilhelmi, Fred Eback and Ryan Regan. Music will be provided by Patty Cote. Reading the Scriptures will be Jason Olson and Kain Schow and bringing forth the gifts will be Jessica and Brianna Johanson.
