Elaine L. Sanderson, beloved mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, aunt and sister-in-law. Forever loved and forever in our hearts, passed away on Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Center, Devils Lake. She was 89 years old.
Elaine LouAnn Sanderson was born on August 5, 1923, the daughter of Walter and Emma (Brown) Nehring at Gardena, ND. She attended school in Gardena and graduated in 1940. She played on the girl’s basketball team.
Elaine worked for 8 years (1940-1948) in Bottineau, ND at the Production Marketing Association (PMA) office.
Elaine was united in marriage to Earl Sanderson on December 27, 1950 at the Gardena Methodist Church. Elaine and Earl lived in Willow City, ND for 2 years and then in 1952 moved to New Rockford, ND and in 1966 moved to Devils Lake where she made her home until the time of her death.
Elaine was a Sunday school teacher, she worked as a substitute helper in the kitchens at all the Devils Lake Schools for many years. She also did volunteer work for the ARC Thrift Store.
Elaine was a member of the United Methodist Church, UMW, Association for Retarded Citizens and the RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program).
Elaine’s grandchildren, Heather and Ethan were her pride and joy. They were the world to her.
Elaine’s family include her daughter JoEtta Wang and her husband, Bob, Devils Lake; grandchildren, Heather Wang, Fargo and Ethan Wang, Devils Lake; sisters-in-law, Gladys Nehring and Isabelle Nehring and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Earl; son, DelRay and twin boys in infancy, Barry and Larry; brothers, Mel, Norman and Gary Nehring; sisters-in-law, Margie Nehring and Arlene Sanderson-Smith and brother-in-law, Vernon Sanderson.
Funeral Services for Elaine will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. David Birkeland officiating. Elaine will be laid to rest beside her husband and son in the Devils Lake Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Friday from 7:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Visitation on Saturday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.
Serving as Casket Bearers for Elaine will be Bob Wang, Ethan Wang, Kent Nehring, Brandon Nehring and Rodney Brown. Special Music by Mary Oehlke and Lynda Pearson.
