Funeral services and Christian Burial for Almiedabelle Howes Knudson, 87, a resident of Devils Lake, ND, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 6, 2013 at Zoar Free Lutheran Church, Hampden, ND. Rev. Craig Wentzel will officiate and burial will be at the Storlie Cemetery, Hampden, ND.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 5, 2013 at Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake, ND, from 4 – 7 p.m., with prayer service starting at 7 p.m. Visitation on Saturday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.
Serving as Pall Bearers will be Douglas Reynolds, Clarence “Bud” Hermanson, Larry Knoke, Lee Werner, LeRoy Howes, and Larry Leet. Honorary Pall Bearers will be her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Almiedabelle passed away and entered Heaven’s gate on Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at Mercy Hospital in Devils Lake. Almiedabelle was born February 21, 1926 in Hampden, ND the daughter of the late Orville and Margit (Kvaal) Dahl. She was raised on a farm and went to school at Country School Building #2 near Derrick, ND for seven years and attended Oak Grove in Fargo her eighth grade year. A consummate mother and homemaker, Almiedabelle was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends. She was a skilled seamstress and passionate about music. Her love for her children was unbounded. Her sense of humor brightened everyone’s life. Almiedabelle made all people feel welcome into her life.
Almiedabelle was united in marriage to the late Paul Thorson in 1945 and they lived in Lawton. During the fall of 1957, she was united in marriage to Lee Howes and they made their home on the farm outside of Starkweather. After the death of Lee in 1994, she was united in marriage to the late Morris Knudson. Morris and Almiedabelle lived on the farm until moving into Devils Lake the fall of 2005.
She is survived by her children and their spouses Alden Thorson of Edmore, ND; Parnell (Louise) Thorson of Waseca, MN; Paulette (Myron) Bosch of Devils Lake; Vicky (Don) McMullen of Devils Lake, ND; Monica (Joseph) Pierret of San Jose, CA; Lee Allan Howes of Starkweather, ND; 11 loving grandchildren and their spouses Patrick (Lori) Thorson, Danielle (Jason) Kraft, Melaina (Eric) Bjorklund, Kayla (Scott) Jones, Melissa (Paul) Kitsch, Angela Herda (Scott Bischoff), Kyle Herda, Alicia Hanson, Brianne McMullen, Amanda McMullen, Lee Donald Howes; 14 great-grandchildren; and a sister Edyatha Paulson of Ridgefield, WA.
She was preceded in death by a son, Bernard Thorson in 1970 and her brother Lollynn Dahl.
