MELVIN MARK FEATHER JR

Melvin M. Feather, 72 of Bismarck, ND formerly of the Spirit Lake Nation, passed away on Friday, August 30, 2013 at the Sanford Living Center in Mandan, ND. A Wake will be held at the Dakotah Oyate Lutheran Church, rural Tokio on Wednesday, September 11, 2013 beginning at 5:00 p.m. with a Scripture Service and Time of Remembrance at 8:00 p.m. The procession to the church will leave on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. from Wal-Mart. The Funeral Service for Melvin will be at the Dakotah Oyate Lutheran Church on Thursday, September 12th at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Larry Thiele officiating. Melvin will be laid to rest in the Dakotah Oyate Cemetery. Melvin Mark was born on August 5, 1941 at Devils Lake, ND the son of Josephine (Adolph) and Melvin Feather Sr. Melvin attended the Maddock Agricultural School where he was on a two time championship basketball team. While living on the Spirit Lake Reservation, Melvin worked for DTI (Dakota Tribal Industries) He lived in Montana and Minneapolis for several years and for the last 10 plus years, Melvin made Bismarck his home. Melvin was at one time married to Lorraine RedBoy Melvin has been a blessing in our life and we will miss him very much. Melvin is survived by his children, grandchildren and great grandson; daughter, Evangeline (Arnold) Vijil and five grandchildren, Quentin Vijil, Cynthia(Matthew) Qualo and their son, Jaden Qualo, Michelle Vijil, Lane Vijil and Angela Vijil all of Farmington, New Mexico; son, Paul Feather of Bismarck, ND; daughter, Leah Feather and six grandchildren all of Wolf Point, Montana; sister LaVerne (Alvin) Bear of Fort Totten, ND; brother Virgil (LaVonnie) Feather Sr. of Tokio, ND; special niece Christine (Robert) Richotte of Fort Totten, ND and many other nieces and nephews. Melvin was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Phillip Feather, Francis Feather, Richard Feather, Gary Feather, Stacy Feather Sr. and Raphael Feather; half- brothers Albert Thompson and Freeman Brown and sisters Charlotte Davis, Darlene Feather, Lynda RedRoad and Tina Mesabe. Serving as Casket Bearers for Melvin will be his nephews, Brandon Feather, Virgil Feather Jr., Dylan Feather and Elijah Feather and adopted nephews, Newlyn Littlewind and MacElwayne Bear. Honorary Bearers will be all of Melvin’s dear relatives and friends and co-basketball players. Friends may sign the online register book and share memories of Melvin at www.gilbertsonfuneralhome.com
