EVELYN BRYN

Evelyn Bryn, 91 of Devils Lake, ND passed away on Friday, October 11, 2013 at the Heartland Care Center, Devils Lake. Funeral Services for Evelyn will be held on Thursday, October 17, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Devils Lake with Rev. Jeff Nicla officiating. Burial will be in the Devils Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Visitation on Thursday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral service. Serving as Casket Bearers for Evelyn will be Doug Baker, Duane P. Volk, Carroll Hegge, Kenneth Hegge, Steve Thome and Rick Mertens. Special music will be provided by Joan Micheletti. Evelyn, daughter of John and Hilma (Hanson) Hegge was born on June 20, 1922 on the family farm in Blacktail Township, Williams County, North Dakota. She attended Blacktail grade school near her home and graduated from Williston High School in 1939. After high school, Evelyn went into nurses training at General Hospital School of Nursing in Devils Lake. As a Registered Nurse, she worked at the Williston Hospital and also at the General Hospital. On October 25, 1944, Evelyn married Sergeant Ray Bryn while he was at home on furlough. They established their home in Devils Lake where they lived through the years. It was near their 69th Anniversary when she passed away. Evelyn worked for J.C. Penney Company for 25 years. Evelyn was very active in volunteer work and also an active member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church since 1948 and the WELCA. She was a member of the Lake Region Skating Club for many years and enjoyed membership in the Harder Hustlers Homemakers. Evelyn enjoyed fishing, whether by boat, shore or ice fishing. After retiring, Evelyn took up cross-country skiing. When it came to pastimes, her expertise was HARDANGER. Her work can be seen in several places. She did this until her eyesight began to fail. Evelyn is survived by her husband, Ray; sisters, Myrtle Fitzpatrick of Spokane, WA, Maybelle and her husband Lloyd Braaten of Fort Morgan, CO and brother, George Hegge and his wife, Sydney of Medora, ND; many beloved nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Colleen Rae; sisters, Myrtle Hegge, Ann Thome, Helen Baker and Ruth Fay and brothers, Joe, John, Hjalmer and Rueben Hegge.
