Eugene E. Gage, 81 of Devils Lake formerly of Calvin, ND passed away on Monday, October 14, 2013 at Mercy Hospital in the loving care of his family.
Funeral Services for Eugene will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at the Gilbertson Funeral Home Chapel, Devils Lake, ND with Rev. Adrian Olson officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 8:30 a.m. until time of service.
Military Honors will be accorded by the Neathery-Simensen Post #756, Devils Lake Veterans of Foreign Wars and the North Dakota Military Funeral Honors Team.
Gene was the youngest of seven children born to Claude B. and Lena M. (Whitmore) Gage. He was born on April 8, 1932 on the family farm in rural Calvin, ND. He began driving a tractor at 8 years of age. Gene farmed until he was 70 years old, then worked eight years for his son, Del.
Gene served in the Army during the Korean War and was the recipient of a Purple Heart and Silver Star.
Gene loved working with wood and built many things for his children and grandchildren, including four grandfather clocks. He served several years on the Calvin Farmers Union Board.
Gene was united in marriage to Judy Twaddle in Langdon in 1954. The moved to Devils lake in 1993, into a home they built themselves.
Gene is survived by his wife of 59 years, Judy; four sons, Del (Bev) Gage, Sarles, ND, Jeff (Donna) Gage, Bismarck, Greg Gage, Langdon and Barry (Denice) Gage, Devils Lake; eleven grandchildren Tracy(Leeann), Chad, Jami, Jenna, Travis, Joey (Jessi), Katie, Lucas, Deelia, Corban and Wyatt; eight great grandchildren Paityn, Avery, Hudson, Tra, Tru, Maci, Finley and Joey Jr.; brothers, Warren Gage, Stanwood, WA, Duaine (Toni) Gage Grand Forks, ND; sisters Lois Flanders, Devils Lake and Betty Stratton, Antioch, CA.
Preceded in death by his parents Claude and Lena; sisters, Norma Heyer and Joyce Ohlheiser.
