LAWRENCE SCHMIDT

Larry D. Schmidt, 58 of Lakewood passed away on Wednesday, October 23, 3013 at his home. Larry, son of Michael and Lavonne (Krogfoss) Schmidt was born on June 30, 1955 at Devils Lake, ND where he was also reared and educated. Larry joined the United States Navy on August 28, 1972 and served as a Boiler Technician on a ship off the Jacksonville, Florida coast and was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal. After his honorable discharge he traveled the country, living for a time in Montana and California. Larry returned to Devils Lake and was the owner and operator of LD Construction and Overhead Door for over 20 years, retiring in 2008 due to health problems. Larry was an avid outdoorsman and loved fishing, horseback riding and raising horses. He was the ultimate Viking football fan through the good and bad. His true talent was as a carpenter. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and many friends and to keep them laughing with a good joke or story. Larry is survived by his sons and daughter-in-law, Shane and Taryn Schmidt of Mankato, MN and Justin Schmidt of California; grandson, Blake Lawrence Schmidt; step son, Jory Stevenson of Minot, ND; sister, Tamra Schmidt of Santa Cruz, California; brother, Mike Schmidt of Bismarck, ND and his beloved significant other, Lori Stevenson of Devils Lake. Other survivors include nieces, nephews and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Larry was preceded in death by his mother, Lavonne McKay; father, Mike Schmidt; grandparents, Charles and Thelma Krogfoss and Kathern and Walter Schmidt. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
