Ffalliott Jean, daughter of Ole and Agnes (Brakke) Midstokke was born on June 8, 1930, in a little farm house up on a hill about 3 miles south of Sharon, ND. She was the youngest in the family with two older brothers. Ffalliott was the typical farm girl. She was kind of a tomboy and made good use of the hill by sledding and skiing down the hill for some good winter fun. Of course any only girl would also do some fighting with her older brothers. At the age of 10 her father died after a long illness and her mother needed to go back to work to help support the family. This meant the children had to take on more responsibility and it also meant moving to where the teaching jobs were available. The family moved to Devils Lake in 1944, Ffalliott’s sophomore year and she graduated from Devils Lake Central High School in 1948. After moving to Devils Lake her mother remarried and the family lived out in Lakewood. After high school, Ffalliott began working at the State Highway Department. She found romance and married her beloved Joel Togstad on June 15, 1951 while he was on furlough from the Army National Guard. They lived for a time at Camp Rucker, Ozark, Alabama until Joel was discharged. They returned to Devils Lake and Ffalliott devoted her life to her husband and raising her family. After the children were older, she worked as a bookkeeper at Shark’s Men Store, Farmers Union Oil Company and Seig’s Office Supply for several years. She retired after 15 years of employment with the Lake Region District Health Unit. Joel passed away on February 6, 2006. She was an active member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, the WELCA and Quilters. She enjoyed participating in the Bible Studies of the church. She also enjoyed membership in the Rebekahs and Sons of Norway. Ffalliott enjoyed a variety of arts and crafts and was an avid reader. She was drawn to books on religion and the power of positive thinking. On any given night of the week, Joel and Ffalliot could be found visiting around the neighborhood and always ending the evening with some fun-filled card games. She had a soft spot for animals and Ffalliot was always interested in the lives and activities of her grandchildren. Ffalliot’s pride and joy were her children Diane Togstad of Bayfield, CO, David Togstad of Devils Lake and Pamela and her husband, David Steffen also of Devils Lake; granddaughters Sarah Aamot, Bayfield, CO and Hannah Steffen and Sydney Steffen both of Devils Lake; brother-in-law Harris Togstad and sister-in-law, Shirley Midstokke, Devils Lake; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; step father, Trygve Eide; brothers, Ole Midstokke and Ancil Midstokke; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Edwin and Minnie Togstad; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Evelyn and Bill Toso and Eileen Togstad.
