Jeanette McPhail, 84 of Devils Lake, ND, passed away early Sunday morning, November 17,2013 at the Heartland Care Center, Devils Lake.
Funeral services for Jeanette will be held Friday, November 22, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Devils Lake with Rev. Jeff Nicla officiating. Burial will be in the Devils Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Thursday from 4:00pm until 6:00 p.m. and 9:00a.m. until 11:00a.m. on Friday and at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.
Jeanette Lucille Svidal was born October 12, 1929 to Karl and Mabel (Larson) Svidal in Devils Lake ND. She attended school in Devils Lake and graduated from Devils Lake High School in 1947. After graduation Jeanette worked in several Devils Lake businesses including Swenson’s Plumbing, McHugh’s Inc. and served as the Executive Director of Ramsey County Housing Authority for over 26 years, retiring from there in 1994.
She married David (Gravy)) McPhail on February 4th, 1983. They made their home in Devils Lake. One of the things she most enjoyed was following the Elks band locally and attending Elk’s events across the country, including trips to New Orleans, Denver and Deadwood. She loved gathering family at their home in Devils Lake for holiday meals and summer picnics on the deck, providing great food for everyone.
One of the greatest joys of her life was watching her son Kip grow up, and have a family of his own. She treasured her grandchildren. She was very proud of their accomplishments both in the classroom, on the court or playing field and in life. She believed in them and provided them unconditional love and support t every day of her life.
Jeanette is survived by her husband David “Gravy” McPhail of Devils Lake, her son Kip and his wife Kathy of Devils Lake, grandchildren Brett(Jamie) Svidal of Minneapolis, MN, Katie Svidal of Minneapolis , MN and Scott(Kim Albertson) of Grand Forks, ND, Gravy’s children Becky Garman and family, Sue McPhail and family, Doug and Deb McPhail and family Bonita and John Pickar and family, and Anna and Rusty Mertens and family, her brother Vernon Svidal of Devils Lake and many wonderful nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Ludvig Svidal and Cliff Svidal, sisters Alice Wiley, Agnes Dunn and Margaret Ayers.
