Myong Im was born on February 21, 1938 in Seoul, Korea. She was raised and educated in Korea and lost both her parents at a young age. While living in Korea, she worked as a seamstress in a factory there. Myong would use her extraordinary talent as a seamstress in many jobs she would pursue in her lifetime.
Myong met her future husband, Raymond Skadsem, while he was serving in the United States Army in Korea. They were united in marriage on September 1, 1979 in Devils Lake. They made Fort Lewis, Washington their home for 5 ½ years then returned to Devils Lake briefly. While in Washington, Myong worked in the Bauer Clothing Factory.
Myong and Raymond moved to Dallas, Texas and they were both employed at Ultra Hospital for the next 17 years. Myong worked in the housekeeping department of the OR Unit. She continued to work as a seamstress and she even had the opportunity to sew the cheerleading uniforms for the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders.
They returned to North Dakota and she worked at Trinity Nursing Home in Minot where they made their home until 1995 when they returned to Devils Lake. While living in Minot, Myong served as a Deacon at the North Hill Baptist Church. She was known for her exceptional work ethic and there was never a question that each job assignment she had was done perfectly and completely.
That determination also showed in her pursuit to become a United States citizen. She and her family were so proud of her achievement. Myong loved gardening and no matter where they lived, there had to be a spot for a garden. Sometimes the “garden spot” was pretty small, but she always made sure there was at least room for the tomatoes. She loved sewing, crocheting and sharing her beautiful creations with family and friends. Most any visit with Myong would include a game or two of Yahtze. She loved time with family, especially being able to be able to care for and play with the children.
Myong was a hard working woman with a big heart for a woman of small stature. We will miss you so much.
