Randall Lee Pederson “Petey”, 62, passed away on Sunday, December 29, 2013, after a courageous 18 month battle with cancer with his loving family and friends at his side.
Petey was born on November 3, 1951, in Devils Lake, North Dakota. Born to Elna (Peterson) and Fred Pederson. Petey was reared and educated at Minnewaukan Public Schools, graduating in 1969. Petey lost his father Fred, at the very young age of 13, and was fortunate that his mother married Boyd Haagenson, who fulfilled the role as father.
Following high school, Petey attended Lake Region Junior College playing baseball under Coach Joe Brandt. Petey then went on and graduated from Minot State College with a degree in recreation. He was a member of the Mu Sigma Tau Fraternity serving as Vice President and Pledge Captain.

Petey was a member of the Devils Lake Town & Country Club. He volunteered for many years with the Devils Lake Volunteer Fire Dept. Annual Fishing Tournament. He played basketball and baseball in high school and continued with softball throughout his adult life. Petey played slow-pitch softball with the Devils Lake World Team, I.F. Lafleur Team and was a founding member of the Burly Bears Team. He also played fast pitch softball with the Southam Jays. Petey was an original member of the AK Spurs dart team and longtime member of the Proz Final Final Team. Petey also played pool with the Burly Bears and was an original member of the Proz “A” Table.
Petey was an avid gardener, growing some of the best tomatoes in the lake region. Petey enjoyed sharing his produce with friends and family as well as his homemade hot mustard and barbeque sauce. He enjoyed canning with his friends, making some of the best pickled asparagus, “red juice”, sauerkraut and vodka pickles.
He was once married to Joni Yager Eisenzimmer. Petey was a proud father to Joni’s children Kyle and Jared Eisenzimmer. It brought him great joy to watch them grow. He enjoyed the countless hockey trips and the memories they brought.
