Mary “Linda” Herman
January 11, 1947-December 29, 2013
Linda Herman, 66, of Fort Totten, ND our beloved Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, and Cousin, passed away onto the spirit world on Sunday December 29th, 2013 at her home.
A Wake Service for Linda will begin at 5pm on Sunday January 5th, 2014 at the St. Michael Recreation Center with a Rosary and Prayer Service at 8pm. The procession to the Recreation Center will leave at 4pm on Sunday from Wal-Mart parking lot.
Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Monday Jan. 6, 2014 at St. Michaels Catholic Church at 10 a.m. with Father Brian Moen as the celebrant. Linda will be laid to rest in the St. Michaels Catholic Cemetery in the spring.
Mary Linda Herman was born on January 11, 1947 to William Herman Sr. and Flora Boyer Herman in Fort Totten. Linda was baptized and confirmed at Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Fort Totten, ND but was an active member of St. Michael Catholic Church.
Linda attended St. Michaels Little Flower school and also Wahpeton, ND, Flandreau, SD and Pierre, SD Indian Boarding Schools. She later attained her G.E.D.
Linda gave birth to a baby boy in May of 1966 naming him William “Billy” Shaw. She held several positions for the Spirit Lake Tribe. She also drove truck, and worked as a dispatcher for the Fort Totten Police Department until retiring in 1996. She then met the love of her life Mr. Antone “Tony” Mitzel and together they made their home in Fort Totten. In October of 2012 she learned she had Breast Cancer. She fought it and won and became a Breast Cancer Survivor. She liked to do all sorts of crafts and travel to Pow-Wows. She liked to do beadwork and puzzles, but most of all she liked to be around her family and friends.
Linda is survived by her son Billy Shaw of Minot, ND; step-son Aaron Mitzel of Tacoma, WA; step father Pierre Culbertson; adopted daughters Angela (Murle) Richotte and Adele (Ambrose) Thompson; sisters Marceline St. Pierre of East Grand Forks, MN, Estelle (John) Hennager of Leeds, ND, Patty Shaw of Ft. Totten, ND; adopted sister Catherine Howard; brother Joseph (Carol) Herman; adopted brother Cecil Longie; god daughters Carrie St. Pierre and Bobby Richotte; special nieces Holly (Justin) Blacksmith and Lynelle (Raul) Cruz; special grandchildren William, Murle Jr., Leonard, Heidi, Bobby and Angel Richotte, Tannis, Bliss, Brissa and Ambrose Thompson, Dustin and Michael Dunn, Justin, Isaiah, Anthony, Kaylee Blacksmith and Christopher Nelson Jr.; special great-grandchildren Devin, Kailee, Dustin Jr. and Brandon Dunn, Selena and Sophia Richotte, Gabriella Lonefight, Bailey St. Pierre and Randall Charboneau;aunt Irene in Washington and uncle John in Minneapolis;sister-in-law Ernestine Herman; along with numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death and joins her love Antone Mitzel, infant son Daniel Joseph, father William Herman Sr. and mother Flora Boyer Herman-Culbertson, brothers William Herman Jr., Jim Herman, Daniel Herman Sr., and Robert Herman Sr., nephews: Justin Littleghost, William Herman, Doug and Blaine Herman, niece Penny Herman, grandchild Mark Fassett Sr. and great grandchild Matisha Fassett.
