Hilary Bernardy, 95 of Munich, ND died on Friday, January 10, 2014 at the J.A. Wedum Residential Hospice in Brooklyn Park, MN in the loving care of his family.
Hilary was born December 17, 1918, the son of Peter and Julia (Kraus) Bernardy in Yellow Medicine County, MN. At the age of one and a half they moved to Trier Township in Cavalier County, ND. He graduated from Munich High School. On November 7, 1939 he married Alice Wengeler at Calio, ND.
Hilary was active on the farm even after he semi-retired and moved into Munich in 1983. He was on the Munich School Board and very active with the Munich Bowling Alley. He enjoyed all sports, especially when his children and grandchildren were playing.
Hilary is survived by his children, Verlyn Bernardy of Dayton, Ohio, Gerald (Connie) Bernardy of Brooklyn Park, MN, Dale Bernardy of Munich, ND, Marlene (Brent) Newman of Gillette, WY, Karen (John) Bittner of Coon Rapids, MN and daughter-in-law, Geraldine Bernardy of Larimore, ND; twelve grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren and his brother, James Bernardy of Munich, ND.
Hilary was preceded in death by his wife, Alice on October 5, 1998; son, Richard on March 30, 2013; granddaughter, Rita Bittner and sisters, Paulina Ballweg, Clara Michels, Eleanor Mueller, Delores Berg and Geraldine Berg.
Mass of the Resurrection for Hilary will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Munich, ND with Fr. Mathew Pamplaniyil celebrating the Mass. Burial will be in St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery, Calio, ND in the spring.
Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Friday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a Scripture Service and Time of Remembrance at 8:00 p.m.
Serving as Casket Bearers for Hilary will be his grandsons, Steven Bernardy, Paul Bernardy, Peter Bernardy, David Bernardy, Kevin Bernardy and Russell Newman. Honorary Bearers will be his granddaughters, Cathy Neuhalfen, Joanne Cymbaluk, Kristen Kyle, Heather Jones, Sarah Bittner and Julie Bittner. Reading the Scriptures will be David Bernardy.
