Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. with a Time of Sharing and Prayer at 5:00 p.m. Visitation on Monday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral service. Carole Yvonne, daughter of Delbert and Dorothy (Tohm) Johnson was born on December 29, 1946 at Cando, ND. She was a farm girl, growing up on the family farm at rural Egeland. She attended the first grade at Newville School and then attended Egeland Public School, graduating from Egeland High School with the class of 1964. She continued her education at Aaker’s Business College in Grand Forks earning a secretarial certificate. Carole put her administrative skills to work at Powell Motor Company for 11 years and then at the North Dakota Telephone Company for 6 years. In 1985 she began what would be a 24 year career as an Administrative Assistant with Lake Region Child Support Enforcement, retiring on May 29, 2009. Carole was united in marriage to Lloyd L. Hintz on April 30, 1966 at the Lakeview Lutheran Church in Egeland. They made their home and their wonderful life together in Devils Lake. Carole was the proud Mother of Brad and Stacy and extra proud Grandma to her five grandchildren who brought so much joy to her life. Carole was always known to have a delicious homemade meal, buns or caramel rolls ready for her family. In retirement came the opportunity for her to establish a special bond with all of her grandchildren as a babysitter, spectator at many of their events, mentor and just by being “the best Grandma”. Carole was faithful, devoted, caring and loving to any need there was. She enjoyed spending time with and caring for her mother as well as being an active member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church through WELCA, Quilters and other activities at church. Carole was an example of what it means to be thankful for all the blessings of life and to trust in God’s promises. Can we imagine life without Carole? No, but we can imagine Heaven with Carole a little brighter as her light shines. Carole is survived by her husband Lloyd of 47 years; son Bradley Hintz and his wife Terri of Grand Forks; Stacy and her husband Bill Connor of Devils Lake; grandchildren Meghan and Matthew Hintz and Barrett, Brendan and Thomas Connor; mother, Dorothy Johnson of Devils Lake; four siblings Kenneth Johnson, Fargo, ND, Linda and Don Shock, Cando, ND, Diane and Jeff Halverson, Devils Lake and Angela Freund also of Cando; many nieces and nephews and cousins also survive. Carole was preceded in death by her father, Delbert; brother, Ron Johnson and in-laws Erna Hintz Otto, Henry Hintz and Ewald Otto.
