Paul Yankton Jr. (Cankdeska Cikana) 68 yrs old entered the Spirit World February 5, 2014 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks N.D. Mass of the Resurrection for Paul will be held on Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Seven Dolors Catholic Church, Devils Lake with Fr. Charles Leute OP celebrating the Mass. The Wake for Paul will be held at the Candeska Cikana Community College Gymnasium on Tuesday, February 11th beginning at 5:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. The procession to the College will leave from Paul Yankton’s home at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Music – Drum Group Spirit Lake Singers, Tony & Vina McDonald and other Drum groups welcome Paul Jacob, son of Paul Yankton Sr. and Christine Thomas was born on February 28, 1945 at Fort Totten, ND. Paul was an enrolled member of the Spirit Lake Nation. He lived his life in Crow hill. Paul attended schools in St. Michael, Wahpeton, and Fort Totten N.D., and graduated from Maddock High School N.D in 1964. Paul started his employment career with the SLST in 1974 with the CAP program (Community Action Program), 1974 to 1977 worked for Murray and Beth Johnson at their grocery store in Fort Totten, 1977 to 1983 he again worked for SLST in the Finance Office, 1983 to present he became the Owner/Manager of Paul’s Grocery, Gas & Laundry in Fort Totten. Paul was one of the first enrolled members to own and operate his own business thru the good and tough times and remains opens to this day. Paul was on the Fort Totten Public School and Tate Topa Elementary School Board, Cankdeska Cikana Board of Regents for 32 years, KAbU radio station and Dakota Tribal Industries for a time. Paul was an advocate for education, especially when it came to the youth. Paul loved and enjoyed watching Four Winds sporting events. He was one true Four Winds fan along with the Minnesota Timberwolves, Minnesota Viking, and Minnesota Twins which he and his best cuzzan Glen Walking Eagle would go every summer to Minneapolis to watch play. He also liked to go to the Casino when he could to get a good came of cards (Poker) in. Paul always helped his people and the tribal entities throughout the years. He sponsored a lot of basketball, baseball, and softball teams (youth, men’s, and women’s). Pall Bearers will be all his Grandsons- Jonathan, Anthony, Nicholas, Travis, Weston, Brent, Jacob, Dedrick, Trevor, baby Paul, baby Doug, Jayden, Jordan, Chandler, Kale, Julian, Julius, Devin, Jonah, and Liam.
