Fredrick M. Peltier, 48 “Mato Najin” (Standing Bear) began his journey to the Spirit World, Tuesday, February 25, 2014 surrounded by his family and friends at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND. In celebration of his life, services will be held at the Crow Hill Recreation Center, rural Fort Totten on Tuesday, March 4th, 2014 beginning at 5:00 p.m. with a Scripture Service and Time of Remembrance at 8:00 p.m. The procession to the Crow Hill Recreation Center will leave at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday from Wal-Mart. Funeral Services for Fredrick will be held on Wednesday, March 5th at 10:00 a.m. also at the Crow Hill Recreation Center with Fr. Charles Leute OP officiating. Fredrick will be laid to rest in the spring at St. Jerome’s Cemetery, rural Fort Totten. Military Honors will be accorded by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #6547 in the spring. Fredrick was born on July 25, 1965 at Pine Ridge, South Dakota to John Peltier Sr. and Gladys Adams. He was a graduate of Four Winds High School in 1983. After graduation he enlisted in the Unites States Army and served his country from 1983 to 1986. After his honorable discharge from the Army, he came back home to Spirit Lake where he lived and met the love of his life, Joyce Tomahawk in 2002. They were joined in marriage on August 12, 2011. Fredrick also enjoyed singing with Grey Dog, Eagle Thunder and the Spirit Lake Singers.
