Faye Christianson, lifelong resident of Devils Lake, North Dakota, passed away on Thursday afternoon February 27, 2014 at the Grand Forks ALTRU Hospital.
Visitation and remembrance will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home of Devils Lake on Monday, March 3rd from 3 to 7 PM. Funeral services for Faye will be held on Tuesday, March 4th at 2 PM at the Peace Lutheran Church in Devils Lake with Pastor Lyle Belleque officiating. Long time friend and co-worker, Mary Oehlke, will sing at the service. Additional remembrance will be at the church 1 hour prior to the service. Faye's Ashes will be buried at the Devils Lake GAR Cemetery following the service.
Faye Joan (Schickling) Christianson was born to Hazel (Thomson) and Ralph Schickling in Devils Lake, North Dakota on September 27th, 1935. She, along with sister Judy, grew up in the family house on 6th street in Devils Lake. She met her soul mate, Gordy, in the 6th grade, who at the time lived across the street. Faye graduated from Devils Lake Central High School in 1953, went on to the Jamestown College of Business School and Dakota Business College in Fargo where she was certified in Business Administration . After college she worked for General Mills in Fargo, North Dakota. Faye moved back to Devils Lake in 1955.
Faye was united in marriage to Gordon Dale Christianson on July 6th, 1957 at the St Olaf Lutheran Church, Devils Lake. They lived in an apartment near the Prairie View School until a rainstorm flooded their basement. They then rented a house near where their house was being constructed. In 1959, Gordy and Faye moved into the house where they lived for the rest of their lives. Faye lost Gordy in 1979. She worked for a short time in 1973 at Mercy Hospital in Devils Lake as a data processer before starting work with Ramsey County Social Services as an eligibility worker. All who worked at the Ramsey County Courthouse enjoyed her warm personality for 27 years. Many local residents also knew her for her 30+ years as dining room hostess at the Elks Lodge.
Upon retirement, Faye enjoyed gardening, being a grandma and spending time with her friends of many years.
Faye was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon and her son, Steven Dale and grandkids, Steven Dale "Stevie" and Michael John.
Faye is survived by her sister Judith Ann (Schickling) with husband Lee Gunn of Pensacola, Florida; three children: Mark Allen Christianson of Pensacola, Florida, Sandy Kay Christianson of Grand Forks, North Dakota, Randy Jay Christianson of Oviedo, Florida and three grandchildren: Keith and wife Jamie (Girodat) Mercer of Grand Forks, North Dakota, Genny and Garret Christianson of Orlando, Florida and great grandchild Tayla Kay Mercer of Grand Forks.
