Vernard Neil Shaw, 55 of Fort Totten, ND passed away at his home on Monday, April 7, 2014.
A Wake for Vernard will be held on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at the Crowhill Recreation Center, rural Fort Totten beginning at 5:00 p.m. The procession to Crowhill will leave on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. from Wal-Mart.
Funeral Services for Vernard will be held on Wednesday, April 16th at 10:00 a.m. also at the Crowhill Recreation Center. Vernard will be laid to rest in the St. Thomas Episcopal Cemetery, rural Fort Totten. Military Honors will be accorded by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #7546.
Vernard Neil, son of Andrew “Andy” and Angeline (Littleghost) Shaw was born on December 9, 1959 in Devils Lake, ND. He grew up with his parents and siblings in rural Fort Totten, ND and received his education in Fort Totten and finished high school at Fort Totten.
Vernard entered the United States Army on February 17, 1981 at Fargo, ND. He served his country stateside and also served in Germany. He was honorably discharged on March 6, 1984. After his discharge, he returned home to Fort Totten and to his family.
He loved doing bead work and was very interested in knowing about Traditional Ways and being a part of it. He enjoyed spending time with his family and grandkids. He is loved by his many nieces who watched over him and we will miss him dearly and his “crazy laugh”.
Vernard’s loving family include his father, Andrew W. “Andy” Shaw; brother, Whalen “Bud” (Renita) Shaw Sr. ; sisters, corrina shaw, Bonnie Jerome and Lori Navarrette; daughters, Adriane Shaw and Luanne Shaw; sons, Marcus Littlewind and Bruce Littlewind; special niece, Alesia “Chubby Lou” Shaw;
Active Pallbearers for Vernard will be Rocky LIttlewind, Whalen Shaw, Gandi Shaw, Andrew K. Shaw and Military Veterans of the Spirit Lake Nation. Music will be provided by Rhythm Riders and all Drum Groups are welcome to share their music in memory of Vernard.
