Rose Casavant of rural Rolette, ND passed away on Sunday morning, April 13, 2014 at the Heart of America Medical Center, Rugby, ND. She was 74.
Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Monday, April 21, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Rolette with Father Philip Chacko and Father Thomas Graner concelebrating the Mass. Rose will be laid to rest in St. Edward’s Catholic Cemetery, rural Thorne, ND.
Visitation will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Sunday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Scripture Service at 7:00 p.m.
Rose, daughter of Joseph and Katherine (Schmidt) Bachmeier was born on February 17, 1940 at Rugby, ND. She grew up on the family farm at rural Tunbridge, ND. She attended a country school near Rugby, Little Flower School in Rugby and graduated from the Notre Dame Academy in Willow City, ND with the class of 1958. While in high school Rose worked at the Rugby Bakery and after graduating she worked at Hershey’s Drug in Rugby.
Rose was united in marriage to Stanley Casavant on June 26, 1961 in Rugby, a handsome young man she met and fell in love with while attending Notre Dame Academy. They established their lifetime home on the farm at rural Thorne.
After the children were older, Rose worked at the Rolette Bakery for several years and then worked in the Dietary Department at the Rolette Nursing Home and at the Dunseith Community Nursing Home.
Rose was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church and Altar Society at Thorne until it closed and the family joined Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rolette. She continued very active in the Altar Society and served as an officer. She was very active in the church and taught CCD for many years. Rose was instrumental in the establishment of the Trinity Youth Camp; the first Catholic summer youth camp in the state. She was very active in the Pro-Life Movement and had a special devotion to the Blessed Mother and made it her goal to have the Rosary recited before each Sunday Mass. Rose also enjoyed membership in the Russell-Shell Valley-Maryville Township Homemakers for many years, served as a 4-H Leader and was also active in the Farmers Union Local.
First and foremost Rose was a devoted wife, loving mother and doting grandmother. She dedicated her life to providing a good Christian upbringing to her children and standing by her husband throughout their married life. When she had some spare time, Rose loved to bake and crochet. She crocheted many creations for special occasions and special people. She was working on piece number 100 which was to be given to her great grandson.
She was a faith filled, strong and determined woman who fought her battle with cancer with great courage. She will be missed dearly by her family and many friends.
Rose is survived by her husband Stanley of 52 years; children Mark Casavant and his wife Sue of Minot, ND, Deborah Anklam of Rolette, Jodi and her husband Todd Lagasse of Devils Lake, ND, Brett Casavant and his wife DeAnn of Burlington, ND and Lisa and her husband Guy Azure of Sand Lake, Michigan; thirteen grandchildren Calahan Casavant, Shaydora Casavant; Bobbi Jo (Dustin) Church, Krista (Cory) Wright, Nikki Anklam; Britton Lagasse, Jacob Lagasse; Jayden Casavant, Jaren Casavant , Alyssa Casavant, Alyea Casavant; James Azure and Natasha Azure; four great grandchildren Alyvia, Aidyn and Owyn Church and Brogan Wright; sisters and brothers Margaret Brossart, Rugby, August (Marceda) Bachmeier, Minot, Theresa (Frank) Brossart, Rugby, Dorothy (Emanuel) Grad, Beulah, ND and Maurus (Bernice) Bachmeier, Phoenix, AZ; brother-in-law Kenneth (Dorothy) Casavant, Pullman, WA; many nieces,nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother George Bachmeier; sisters Katherine Bohl, Phyllis Sattler, Elizabeth Schmaltz and Marion Hauck; father-in-law and mother-in-law Albert and Henrietta Casavant.
Serving as Casket Bearers for Rose will be her grandsons Calahan Casavant, Britton and Jacob Lagasse, Jayden and Jaren Casavant and James Azure. Reading the Scriptures will be granddaughters Bobbi Jo Church and Krista Wright and Gift Bearers will be granddaughters Shaydora Casavant, Nikki Anklam, Alyssa Casavant, Alyea Casavant and Natasha Azure.
Memorials will be directed to the local Relay For Life Teams.
