Elmer Brown, “Sun Kahn Du’zahan Hoksina” (Fast Horse Boy) 76 of Tokio, ND passed away on Monday evening, April 21, 2014 at the Good Samaritan Center, Devils Lake with family and friends at his side.
The Wake for Elmer will be held on Sunday, April 27, 2014 at the Woodlake Wellness Center in Tokio, ND beginning at 5:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Prayer Service at 8:00 p.m. The procession to Tokio will leave at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday from Wal-Mart.
Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Monday, April 28, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, St. Michael, ND with Father Charles Leute OP and Father Brian Moen concelebrating the Mass. Elmer will be laid to rest in St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery.
Casket Bearers for Elmer will be Jayryl Guy, Tony Guy, Jason Thompson, Jesse Jackson, Eldwin Guy, Duane Jackson Jr. and escorts Kylen Guy and Xavier Brown. Music will be provided by Tony and Vina McDonald.
Elmer was born on February 7, 1938 at Fort Totten, ND, the son of Henry and Winifred (Jackson) Brown. He grew up on Brown homestead at the Sheyenne River. He attended boarding school at Fort Totten and St. Michael. The family later moved to the St. Michael and Tokio area.
As a young man, Elmer hooked on to the freight trains and rode all over the country. To earn his way along, he would sing and play guitar. He always enjoyed helping Fr. Chuck take care of the lawn and maintenance of the grounds of Christ the King Church in Tokio. Elmer was a people person and found that going to the Casino was a great place to visit with friends and family and to meet and make new friends.
Elmer worked at Sioux Manufacturing Corporation for many years and then at the Spirit Lake Casino from 1994 to 2007 when he had to retire due to health problems.
Elmer is survived by his nieces Corrine Brown, Bernadette (Craig) Brown, Rebecca Brown and Debbie Little; nephews Russell (Debbie) Smith, Wesley Brown, Robert (MaryAnn) Brown and Joseph Brown Jr.; special granddaughters Amy Brown, Holly Brown, Constance Brown, Courtney Brown and Rochelle Guy; special grandsons Allen Brown, Eldwin Guy and Tennyson BlueShield; great grandchildren Jayryl Guy, Jayla Guy, Kylen Guy, Kylana Guy, Xavier Brown, Nakomis Lawrence, Aubree Lawrence and Kyler Lawrence; cousins Violet Smith and Yvonne Thompson; aunt Pauline Greywater; godsons Jason Thompson, Jesse Jackson and Vance Thompson Sr.
Elmer was preceded in death by his father Henry Brown; mother Winifred Brown Cloud; step father Sam Cloud; brothers Patrick Brown, Alfred Brown and Joseph Brown Sr.; sisters Sylvia Brown and Marie Brown; nephews Gerald Longie Sr., Clifford Brown, Freeman Brown, Curtis Greene and Allen Brown.
