Carol L. Lien, 81 of Devils Lake, ND passed away on Thursday, April 24, 2014 at Heartland Care Center, Devils Lake. Funeral Services for Carol will be held on Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Devils Lake with Rev. Jamie Desai officiating. Carol will be laid to rest in the Devils Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Monday, April 28th from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.   Visitation on Tuesday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral service. Carol Louise, daughter of John and Pearl (Johnson) Geving, was born on February 5, 1933 in Parshall, ND. She lived in the Parshall area with her family for several years, then the family moved to Lakota where she attended the Lakota Public School. Carol was united in marriage to Kermit E. Lien on November 18, 1950 at Lakota. In 1956, they moved to Lawton where they raised their family. In 1984 they moved to Devils Lake. Kermit died on December 9, 1992. Carol continued to make Devils Lake her home until her death. First and foremost, Carol was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother. Known for making the best lefse and doughnuts, she ensured that all the kids and grandkids never went away from her home without a special treat. After the children were grown, Carol worked as a cook at the Artclare Motel and later made many good friends during her time working at Wal-Mart. She enjoyed time with her bowling league friends, BUNKO players and was the TOPS Queen in 1979.   Carol had a talent for knitting and loved to share her creations with friends and family. Carol is survived by her loving family. Her children and their spouses, Connie and Donald Johnson of Greeley, CO, Steve and Kelli Lien of Rapid City, SD, Dennis and Betty Lien of Spring Branch, TX, Kerry and Connie Lien of Grand Forks, ND, Nancy and Don Taylor of Devils Lake, ND, Roger and Lynn Lien of Hinesville, GA and David and Kim Lien of Bismarck, ND; twenty grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; sister Shirley Damberger of Cut Bank, MT; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law Willis and Marita Lien of Devils Lake, Harriet Hullett of Big Fork, MT and Ann Lien of Minnesota; many nieces, nephews and their families. Carol was preceded in death by her husband Kermit; grandchildren Brandi Lien and Cody Lien.
