MAXINE A. SPIESMAN

Maxine A. Spiesman, 85 of rural Devils Lake, ND passed away early Friday morning, April 25, 2014 at the Heartland Care Center, Devils Lake.  Funeral Services for Maxine will be held on Thursday, May 1, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the Westminster Presbyterian Church, Devils Lake with Pastor Kevin Kaufmann officiating and burial will be in the Devils Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Wednesday, April 30th from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.   Visitation on Thursday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral service. Maxine Ann, daughter of Andrew and Mabel (Peterson) Anas was born on August 6, 1928 at Harlow, ND. She grew up in Harlow and attended a country school and graduated from Harlow Public School. She then attended the Dakota Business School in Fargo, ND. Maxine worked at the Nortz Lumber Company in Devils Lake. Maxine was united in marriage to Charles F. Spiesman on March 15, 1952 at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Devils Lake. Maxine and Charles lived their entire married life near Devils Lake, living north of Devils Lake beginning in 1955 when they purchased the farm formerly owned by Carl and Margaret Swanson. In addition to the duties of a farm wife and mother, Maxine worked for 26 years with the Ramsey County ASCS office and retired on August 27, 1988.  Maxine and Charles wintered in Arizona for several years after retiring.  Maxine loved gardening and had her own greenhouses on the farm. She was a very creative person and worked with stained glass and lapidary. Maxine was always anxious to get the camper ready for the summer and so enjoyed their many family camping adventures. She was an active member of the Presbyterian Church, their Bible Study group and many of the other activities of the women’s organization.  Maxine is survived by her son Lee and his wife Wendy of Fargo, ND and other relatives and dear friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Charles on January 3, 2009 after 56 years of marriage.  Serving as Casket Bearers for Maxine will be Raymond Sletteland, John Sletteland, Jarrod Stubbe, Leo Ziegler, C.J. Bloomquist and Armen Hanson. Music will be provided by Peter A. Hager, vocalist and Lynda Pearson, organist.
