BERNICE T. SAMUELSON

Bernice T. Samuelson, 78 of Devils Lake, formerly of the Hamar, ND area passed away on Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at Mercy Hospital, Devils Lake. Funeral Services for Bernice will be held on Friday, May 2, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake with Rev. Roger Reinhart officiating. Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home on Thursday, May 1, 2014 from 4:00 – 6:00 pm and on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until time of service. Graveside Services for Bernice will be at the Gethsemane Cemetery, rural Tolna, ND on Saturday, May 3, 2014 at 4:00 p.m. Bernice was born on July 13, 1935 at home on the farm, south of Hamar, ND the daughter of Olger and Alma (Johnson) Trostad. Bernice was united in marriage to Sam Samuelson on February 18, 1955. They established their home on the farm, south of Hamar, living there until 1957. They then moved to Devils Lake where they lived, worked and raised their family through the years. Bernice was a very popular cook, waitress and hostess working in many local restaurants including the Lunch Box, Two Spot, Country Kitchen, Cedar Inn, McDonalds and Hardees. After Sam began working for Brown-Root they moved south and Bernice worked as a cook and waitress, then in housekeeping at a hotel in Arizona. In 2002, they moved back to Devils Lake and Bernice again worked for Hardees for five years before retiring.   Bernice is survived by her husband of 59 years, Sam: children, Debra Morin of Minot, ND; Lora (Mike) Crouch of Belle Fourche, SD, Mark Samuelson of Monroe, LA, Todd (Gwen) Samuelson of Battle Mountain, NV, Scott Samuelson also of Minot and Tricia (Daniel) Eback of Fargo, ND; thirteen grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; brother, Gunder Trostad of Tacoma. Bernice was preceded in death by her parents; a baby boy; brother, Leslie Trostad; son-in-law Steve Morin. Serving as Casket Bearers for Bernice will be Melissa Crouch, Kaitlyn Taylor, Stephanie Eback, Samantha Samuelson, Erin Morin and Casey Crouch.  Reading will be Nikki Nichole.
