Michael L. Abrahamson passed away in his home on Thursday, May 8, 2014 after a long, courageous battle with esophageal cancer. He was in the loving care of his sons, family and friends with his devoted wife at his side.
Mike “Abe” was born June 21, 1957 in Devils Lake, ND and lived there his entire life. Mike’s parents were the late Harold and Lois (Day) Abrahamson. Mike graduated from Devils Lake Central High School and went onto Lake Region State College.
On July 1, 1976, Mike was united in marriage to Glenda Lindenberg and together they raised two sons, Travis and Trevor. Mike worked at H.E. Everson Company for 15 years, then went out on his own to establish Abe’s Lawn Care Service and Gofer Sanitation. In 2002 he went to work for Alltel and AT&T selling Lifeline telephone service on the North Dakota Native American Reservations. Mike was a wonderful salesman, earning himself many achievement awards both from H.E. Everson and Alltel.
Mike enjoyed fishing, 4-wheeling, yard work and spending time with his many friends. Over the years, he loved spending time with his numerous pets. Mike had a big heart and always enjoyed giving and doing for others that had less than himself.
Mike is survived by his wife Glenda Abrahamson; two sons Travis Abrahamson and his wife Missy of Devils Lake and Trevor Abrahamson of Grand Forks, ND and Travis and Missy’s children and Mike’s grandchildren Brina, Braden and Ashlyn Abrahamson; siblings Janice (Lee ) Bukowski, Stephen, MN, Harold Abrahamson, Devils Lake, Sally (Jim) Ward, Tumwater, WA, Ronald Abrahamson, Devils Lake and Ralph (Cheri) Abrahamson, Moorhead, MN; mother-in-law Evelyn Lindenberg, Devils Lake; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Darlene (Leonard) Eversvik, Devils Lake, Misty (Leroy) Lara, Crary, ND and Roger (Debbie) Lindenberg also of Crary; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins and his beloved dogs, Costa and Shadow.
Preceding Mike in death were his parents, Lois and Harold; brother Richard Abrahamson; sister-in-law Cindy Abrahamson; grandparents Charles and Anna Abrahamson and Edwin and Ruth Day.
Serving as Active Pallbearers for Mike will be Neal Ackerman, Larry Elshaug, Steve Tronson, Craig Thomas, Joe Lamb, David Belgarde, Terry “Pickle” Walters and Craig E. Estenson. Honorary Bearers are all members of the Spirit Lake Tribe and all of Mike’s many friends.
Mike’s journey home has been a long one, but the love and care shown by his friends, neighbors and relatives eased the pain of his disease.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Mike’s life will be held on Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Devils Lake, ND with Reverend Don Reynolds officiating. Burial will be in the Doyon Cemetery, Doyon, ND.
Mike requested that memorial donations be made to one of the charities he most supported, the Grand Forks Rescue Mission.
