Pat Ruth, daughter of John and Nina (Horner) Bradley was born on January 17, 1935 at Rocklake, ND. She was raised there and attended a country school for several years and graduated from Rocklake High School with the class of 1953. Pat was a member of the first Girls’ basketball team from Rocklake to go to the State Tournament in 1951, taking second place. Pat continued her education at Minot State Teacher’s College. After receiving her teaching certificate, she taught at the Mount Pleasant School, a one room school near Calvin, ND for two years.
Pat fell in love and was united in marriage to Charles William Hendrickson on July 2, 1955 at Rolla, ND. They soon established their home in Devils Lake where they lived, worked and raised their six children. Pat and Chuck were the owners and operators of “Mini Golf” at Roosevelt Park for many years.
First and foremost, Pat was a devoted wife and loving mother. She did work outside the home as the children grew older. She worked for a time as the secretary at the Gambles Store, later at the Devils Lake Journal and for many years was employed at Lake Region Clinic. She especially loved her work at the Devils Lake Elks Lodge until it moved to a new location and she retired.
Pat sang competitively from the time she was in grade school. She specialized in harmonies and sang with Sweet Adelines and the Silver Sensations. She sang for many years with the Methodist Church choirs and provided vocal music ministries for many funerals, weddings and special occasions. There was always a song in her heart. Pat loved bowling. She belonged to several bowling leagues over many years. She was the recipient of many awards and especially enjoyed going to tournaments throughout the state and even out of state. It was a chance to travel and also to spend special time with her dear bowling friends. She also was a dedicated member of the Rebekah’s for over 60 years and had recently joined the Odd Fellows when that was made possible. She never missed the local high school or college basketball games and was a Lake Region College Sports Booster.
She was a woman of strong faith, determination and support to many, as a member of First United Methodist Church. We shall miss the loving heart, the beautiful smile of our beloved Pat.
She is survived by her husband of nearly 59 years, Chuck; her children Terri (Pat) Belford of Salem, VA, Jeff (Jackie) Hendrickson of Dickinson, ND, Nina (Ricky Crocker) Hendrickson of Apopka, FL, John Hendrickson, Devils Lake, Lynn (special friend, Beth Harder) Hendrickson of Denver, CO and Elaine Ellis also of Salem, VA; thirteen grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; brother Scott Bradley and his wife Maribeth of Devils Lake; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law Doris Clark, Bismarck, ND and Ann and Wayne Schwandt of Rolla, ND.
