LOIS K MYERS

Lois Cathleen Burt Myers entered into heaven and into the arms of the Lord to meet her beloved son Randy, grandchildren Ali and Evan, along with many other loved ones on June 1st 2014. She passed away at a Woodbury, Minnesota Medical Center. Lois was born in Devils Lake ND on January 15th 1931 to May and Robert Burt. She spent her early childhood in Southam ND, moving with her family to Oregon and Washington during World War II. Lois graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in Devils Lake and went on to attend Valley City State College. Lois graduated Cum Laude from the University of North Dakota with a Masters Degree in education. Lois began her teaching career in a rural one-room school near Lakota ND. She devotedly taught in the Devils Lake school systems as Director of the Title One reading programs and was cherished by all of her students. In 1989, Lois was awarded with the honor of Devils Lake Teacher of the Year. In 2003 she received the award as Unsung Hero of the year and was inducted into the Teachers Hall of Fame where her picture is displayed at Devils Lake High School. Lois retired from teaching in 1996, but continued to substitute until 2010 due to her love and devotion to her students. Lois married Ted Myers in 1952, and they resided in Devils Lake their entire lives. Lois and Ted were blessed with three children: Melissa, Randy, and Sheila. She was also blessed with eight grandchildren: Graham, Alexandra, Evan, Ian, Beau, Chase, Noa Leigh, and Marshall. Lois had a very active social life and belonged to birthday club, book clubs, Shakespeare club, and various sorority clubs. She was a life long member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Parish and served on the school board. Lois’ greatest joy was her family and friends and she loved them with her heart and soul. In return, her children and grandchildren adored her. Lois’ greatest passion was dancing, entertaining, baking pies, reading, and traveling with her family. One of Lois’ greatest memories was a family trip to Ireland with her siblings. Lois was a classy lady with a heart of gold and anyone who knew her loved her. She will be sorrowfully missed by all who had the joy of being touched by her warm loving spirit and kind gentle heart. Lois was a hero to many; she suffered many losses in her lifetime. She lost her beloved son Randy in 2010, her beloved grandchildren Ali and Evan in 2002 and husband, Ted in 1992. Due to her strong faith and trust in the Lord, Lois handled her losses with grace and dignity. We will miss our angel Lois here on earth. But heaven has gained a beautiful new angel. Lois was preceded in death by: husband Ted, parents May and Robbie, sister Barbara, brothers Mickey and Darrel, son Randy, and grandchildren Ali and Evan.
