Jacquline Deanna “Dee” Baker, passed on June 1, 2014, our beloved Mother’s 73rd birthday, at her home in rural St. Michael. She battled her cancer with courage, a strong will and determination for the past three years. She was surrounded by her beloved family and friends.
Jacquline Deanna Burns, daughter of Neal S. and Doris L. (King) Burns was born at Fort Benning, Georgia on June 1, 1941. She married the love of her life, James Baker in Columbus, Georgia on March 28, 1958. Together they lived, worked and raised their three children.
Jackie was working as a waitress when she met James and he often sang her this love song. “Jackie was a waitress in a small café and Jim was the Baker who took her away.” They moved to the Spirit Lake Nation and Jackie worked at Sioux Manufacturing Corporation for 5 years, Dakota Tribal Industries for 3 years and for 13 years was employed at Spirit Lake Casino.
Jackie loved playing live poker and video poker, watching NASCAR and cheering on her favorite driver, Carl Edwards. Her favorite TV shows were, “Let’s Make A Deal”, “The Price Is Right”, “Wheel of Fortune” and RDFTV. She especially enjoyed visiting and teasing family and friends.
She leaves behind her husband, James; daughters, Robin (Paul) Lawrence of St. Michael, Juanita (Mike) Green of Spokane, WA and son, James “Jay” (Brenda) Baker also of Spokane; grandchildren, Lindsey Lawrence (Noah), Challsey Lawrence(Ben) and Paul John Lawrence Jr. all of St. Michael, Naomi Cavanaugh (Jon), John Cavanaugh(Taylor), Fabian Green, Bo Green and Cierra Baker all of Spokane; step grandson, Christopher Riley also of Spokane; god child, Natalie Christenson, Fargo, ND and brothers Robert (Betty) Burns, Leesville, LA and Sidney (Sandy) Burns, College Station, TX; many nieces and nephews also survive.
Those who welcomed her to her eternal home were her parents and special aunt, Iris Holland.
Serving as Casket Bearers for Jackie will be Noah Schulz, Mikael “Mike” Latvala, Paul Lawrence Sr., Kenny Baker, Jr., Ben Scallon and Jon Marbury.
Special Honorary Pallbearers will be Fr. Brian Moen, Ella Jane LaFrombois, Marsha Morin, Belinda Murphy, Debbie Cavanaugh and Jill Charboneau-Goodsell. Jackie touched so many lives and loved everyone she met throughout her life. We thank you for being a part of Jackie’s life and forgive us if we did not mention you by name. It was not intentional. We are doing our best in this incredibly sad and difficult time.

Mass of the Resurrection for Jackie will be held on Friday, June 6, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church with Fr. Brian Moen celebrating the Mass. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 5th also at the church from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Scripture Service and Time of Sharing at 6:30 p.m. The procession to St. Michael will leave at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday from Wal-Mart.
