Marilyn Bernice Peters-Stotts died early Saturday morning, June 21, 2014 at her home at Edgewood Vista Memory Care in East Grand Forks, MN, where she resided for 3 years. Marilyn Martinson was born 3-30-30 to Clarence and Mildred Martinson in Northfield Township. She attended Victoria country school and Hampden Public School, where she graduated in 1948. She worked at the Ramsey County Extension Office in Devils Lake, following completion of her studies at Interstate Business School in Fargo, ND. Marilyn married Alvin Peters on October 13, 1951. They both worked in Devils Lake, followed by farming in the Hampden, ND, area until 1960. They then worked as custodians for the Hampden Public School for a few years. Marilyn began as Officer in Charge at the Hampden Post Office in 1961, followed by her appointment as the Hampden Postmaster in 1965, and retired in November 1990. Marilyn and Alvin raised three children, Vicki , Roger, and Mike. Alvin died in 1985. Marilyn was married to Vernald Stotts from July 1998 until he died in February 2013. Marilyn was an active member of the community. She was a member of the Hampden Commercial Club, American Legion Auxilliary, Hampden Senior Citizens, Election Board, and the Zoar Lutheran Church. Marilyn enjoyed her bible study group, singing in the church choir, attending several postmaster conventions around the U.S., and bowling. She also did income tax returns for friends and managed checking accounts for several area clubs. Marilyn had lots of laughs with her friends as she played bunko, bingo, and the slots! She cherished her time with the coffee group at the Hampden Café. Marilyn is survived by her daughter, Vicki (Jim) Reimer in Bemidji MN, her son, Roger (Peggy), Devils Lake, ND, brother Pete Martinson in Fargo, ND, and sister, Donna Karel in Neche, ND. She is also survived by grandchildren Melissa, Troy, (Kortney) and Paulette Peters, Stephanie Reimer, Jennifer Wolf (Rick), and Chris (Stacy) Peters, and six great grandsons and 3 great granddaughters, several nieces and nephews. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, Alvin Peters, second husband, Vernald Stotts, brother Marvin Martinson, sister Clarice Martinson, son Mike Peters, and grandson David Peters. Serving as active pallbearers are Chris Peters, Troy Peters, Jared Martinson, Larry Martinson, Richard Martinson, Steve Karel, Jeff Karel, Brad Karel, Jim Reimer, and Richard Lunde. Honorary pallbearers are Marilyn’s granddaughters, great grandchildren Courtland Wirtz, Evan Peters, Payton Rhoads, Laela Reimer, Rayna Rhoads, Quintin, Jarrett, and Emery Wolf, and Garret Peters; and nieces Barb Lunde, Claire Evans, Diane Blue, Lavonne Liversage, and Teri Martinson. Funeral Services for Marilyn will be held on Thursday, June 26, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Zoar Free Lutheran Church, Hampden, ND with Rev. Craig Wentzel officiating. Burial will be in the Storlie Cemetery, rural Hampden. Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Wednesday, June 25th from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation on Thursday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.
