Shirley Eng, age 83, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 30, 2014 at Heartland Care Center in Devils Lake.
Shirley was born October 7, 1930 in Ogden, Utah to Ben and Anna (Duff) Berkley. She was born the 3rd of 6 children and was raised and went to school in Ogden. Shirley married Robert Spencer on January 5, 1947. Over the next 30 years, they worked in construction and lived in a number of communities in the states of Wyoming, Washington, Oregon, Colorado and North Dakota.
After losing her first husband to cancer in 1980, Shirley remarried to a long-time friend of the family, Robert Eng, in 1985. They enjoyed summers in Turtle Lake and winters in Arizona before Bob passed away from cancer in 1996. Since that time, Shirley has lived in Turtle Lake; Libby, Montana; Cando and Devils Lake.
In her later years, Shirley enjoyed the solitude of reading books and playing games on her I-Pad. She always had a good sense of humor, appreciated practical jokes, and was able to tell a good story, even though they weren’t always historically accurate. In earlier years, Shirley enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting and camping. She had varied interests and talents and held a variety of jobs, from giving bowling lessons, sewing lessons, accounting and bookkeeping, to working with the US Forest Service. .
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, 2 husbands, 4 brothers and sisters, a stepson and a granddaughter. She is survived by son Robert (Glenda) Spencer of Devils Lake; daughter Cheri Spencer of Kalispell, Montana; son Phil Spencer of Libby, Montana; stepdaughter Sharron (Don) Hoff of Velva and stepson Ron Eng of Wahpeton, 9 grandchildren and 11 grandchildren.
Shirley will be buried with her first husband, Bob, in Riverton, Wyoming. A graveside service will be scheduled in Riverton at a later date.
