Eileen C. Fugle, 89, a life long resident of the Lake Region, passed away on Thursday, July 31, 2014 at the Heartland Care Center, Devils Lake.
Funeral Services for Eileen will be held on Tuesday, August 5th, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Devils Lake with Rev. Jeff Nicla officiating. Burial will be in the Devils Lake Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Monday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service and Time of Remembrance at 7:00 p.m. Visitation on Tuesday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.
Eileen Hatten, daughter of Samuel K. and Lena (Sorbel) Hatten was born on November 12, 1924 at Devils Lake, ND. She grew up in the Lake Region area, attending country schools in the Southam area, graduating from Devils Lake Central High School. After graduating, she worked at Woolworth’s in Devils Lake.
Eileen was united in marriage to Gordon Fugle on May 14, 1944 at Devils Lake, ND. They established their home in Devils Lake where they lived, worked and raised their daughter, Judith. Shortly after their marriage, Gordon was called to serve his country with the US Army and was sent overseas. Eileen remained in Devils Lake and when Gordo n returned, made Devils Lake their home their entire lives.
In 1956, Eileen began working as the administrative assistant for the Ramsey County Extension Services. She retired in 1991 after 34 years of dedicated service.
Eileen’s priority was always as a devoted and loving wife and mother. She was an active member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church and the WELCA, VFW Auxiliary and Pioneer Daughters. She enjoyed membership in the Rebekah’s where she served in many local offices and as Noble Grand, as well as serving in many offices on the State level. After retirement, she also was very active in the RSVP program and volunteered many hours of service to the Heartland Care Center and Odd Fellows Home. She also served as a 4-H Leader for many years as Judy was growing up.
Eileen was never idle. When she wasn’t working or volunteering, she enjoyed gardening, ceramics, decorating cakes for any special occasion of family and friends, crocheting and was always finding some new arts and crafts project to try. But the love shared with family and friends brought Eileen joy beyond measure. She will be greatly missed.
Eileen’s beloved family includes her daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Mark MacDonald of Devils Lake; grandchildren Michelle (Roger ) Fritz, Darin (Stacy) MacDonald and Heather (Dan) Kraft all of Devils Lake; five great grandchildren Greg and Rachel Fritz; Beth MacDonald; Aubrie and Burkley Kraft; sister Irma and Duane Carter; brother Larry and Elda Hatten all Devils Lake; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Gordon on December 31, 2009; nephews Craig and Sam Carter.
Serving as Casket Bearers for Eileen will be Bob Hatten, Brent Carter, Mike Boehmer, Douglas Nilep, Bradley Cogdill and Kirby Anderson. Honorary Bearers are Bob and Viola Borho, Harold Nilep, Maxine Frank, Louise Oleson and members of the Rebekahs.
