Faith A. Mitzel, 97 of the Oberon/Fort Totten area of North Dakota passed away on Saturday afternoon, August 16, 2014 at the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd in New Rockford, ND. Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Seven Dolors Catholic Church, Fort Totten with Fr. Charles Leute OP celebrating the Mass. Faith will be laid to rest in Hillside Cemetery, rural Oberon. Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Friday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Scripture Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation on Saturday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral Mass. Faith Alice was born on August 4, 1917 at Fort Totten, ND the daughter of Julius and Anna (Ritterman) Jabs. She grew up and was educated at Fort Totten and would live most of her life in the Fort Totten/Oberon area. Faith was united in marriage to Tony Mitzel on November 4, 1935 in Bismarck, ND. Shortly after their marriage they moved to Oregon and later California. In 1948, the family moved to the farm at Oberon where they lived, farmed together side by side and raised their family until Tony passed away in March of 1980. Faith and Tony were also very active in raising many foster children and many of the children were still involved in Faith’s life at the time of her death. Faith was a farm wife and mother and continued to live on the family farm until she moved to New Rockford in 2013. In the later years, Faith loved to go to Bingo and visit with family and friends. She enjoyed crocheting and shared her afghan creations with her family. She also enjoyed traveling around the country. Faith is survived by her children Ramona Wick, Maddock, ND, Shirley Shockley, Doran, MN, Louise DeMarce, Devils Lake,` Jolene Mitzel, Bismarck, ND, John Mitzel, Vancouver, WA and Steve Mitzel, Devils Lake; adopted daughter and special friend, Adeline “Angie” Herald; sixteen grandchildren; thirty great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; sisters-in-law Carol Jabs and Jane Jabs both of Devils Lake. Faith was preceded in death by her husband Tony; parents; sons Anthony Lavern, Anton Jr. and Gerald; brothers Marvin Jabs and Howard Jabs; grandchild Steven Mitzel Jr. and three great grandchildren. Serving as Casket Bearers for Faith will be Tony Eback, Lavern “Bundy” Littlewind, Jerod Hawk, Gary Wick, Adeline “Angie” Herald and Alton RedFox. Honorary Bearers will be David Jabs, Myron Jabs, Gene Wooley, Noreen Littleghost, Faith’s friends at the White House Café and her BINGO partners at Spirit Lake Bingo and Ostby Hall in Sheyenne
