Gloria I. Lysne, 88 of Devils Lake, ND passed away Sunday, September 21, 2014 at the Heartland Care Center in the loving care of family and Mercy Hospice.
Funeral Services for Gloria will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Devils Lake with Rev. Jeff Nicla officiating. Gloria will be laid to rest in the Devils Lake Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Friday, September 26th from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service and Time of Remembrance at 7:00 p.m. Visitation on Saturday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.
Gloria Imogene, daughter of Emil and Mildred (Omlid) Vincent was born on September 16, 1926 at Maddock, ND. She was raised and educated in Maddock, graduating from Maddock High School in 1944. She continued her education at Concordia College, Moorhead, MN and graduated from there in 1951 with a Bachelors Degree in Business Education.
Her first official teaching positions after graduation were in Goodrich, West Fargo and Towner, ND. She met her beloved Dennis Lysne who was also a teacher. They were united in marriage on Flag Day, June 14,1953 in Maddock. They made their home in Fillmore, ND. They both taught school there. Dennis began teaching at Carrington High School and Gloria accepted a teaching position in Sykeston. They made their home in Carrington for the next eight years.
In 1962 the family moved to Devils Lake and made it their home through the years. In addition to the role of devoted wife and mother, Gloria taught at St. Mary's Academy and later at Four Winds High School in Fort Totten. She retired from Four Winds, but would frequently substitute teach at Lake Region State College.
Gloria was a member of Our Savior's Church and the WELCA, the Sons of Norway and NDEA.
Music was always such an important part of Gloria's life. She was the church organist at Our Savior's for 34 years. She also accompanied Dennis anytime he sang and played at numerous funerals and weddings throughout the years. She was the official accompanist for the GOSPALS and frequent substitute for Silver Sensations, Our Savior's and Sons of Norway Choirs.
Gloria was a woman of great faith and great love of family. She was so proud of each of her children and grandchildren. She was the faithful, loving wife to Dennis for 61 years.
She is survived by her husband Dennis; sons Eric (Susan) Lysne, Devils Lake and Dr. Paul (Stacy) Lysne, Andover, MN; grandchildren Maren, Christa and Rachel Lysne and Jessica and Julia Lysne; twin sisters Marlys Walker, Glendale, AZ and Estelle Haapoja, St. Charles, MN; in-laws Harris and Joyce Lysne, Rugby, ND and Gayle Lysne and Stan Jaeger, Grand Forks; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Serving as Casket Bearers for Gloria will be Harris Lysne, Todd Lysne, Ron Torgerson, Richard Lysne, Morris Aanstad and Gilbert Kjelden. Music will be provided by Irving Thompson and Cindy Broden.
