LAVERN "BUNDY" S. LITTLEWIND-SHERMAN-CHASKE

Bundy, very special Son, Father, Brother, Uncle. LaVern Stanley “AKA Bundy” LittleWind Sr., “Cante Tanka Yuhan Mani” (Walks With A Big Heart) entered into the Spirit World on January 15, 1977 and returned to the Spirit World on September 22, 2014. LaVern Stanley Littlewind-Sherman-Chaske was a very special Son, sent from Heaven the year of 1977. Bundy was adopted by his loving mother, Rosemarie “Bess” when he was 4 years old. Rosemarie changed LaVern’s name to LaVern S. “AKA Bundy” LittleWind. Rosemarie “Bess” loved and cared for him until she passed away onto the Spirit World in October of 1999. Bundy attended elementary school at Four Winds and the old Fort Totten School and Bundy graduated in 1995 and LaVern LittleWind was named Valedictorian of the 1995 Senior Class at Four Wind High School. Bundy maintained a 3.5 grade point average throughout the school year. He planned on going to UND-Lake Region for one year and then would enter medical school at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks. Many students from this area were among more than 2400 who earned their degrees at the University of North Dakota in 1994-95. Bundy enjoyed flagging during road construction from 1995-1997. Lavern Stanley Littlewind Sr., “Bundy” began his law enforcement career as a Tribal Police Officer for the Spirit Lake Nation, Fort Totten, ND in early spring of 1998. Bundy was then hired as a Bureau of Indian Affairs Police Officer, (BIA Officer) on August 27, 2000. He attended the Indian Police Academy Class/Federal Law Enforcement Training Center “BIATP 905/082 at Artesia, New Mexico and had to return to North Dakota to attend his mother’s funeral, without being able to complete the training. He was accepted a second time and graduated with Class BIATP-105/090 on December 14, 2001. Bundy spent his career serving Spirit Lake Nation and the community members as a dedicated officer. He was also detailed to provide assistance to various Tribal-BIA Agencies throughout Indian Country such as; Rosebud Sioux Tribal Agency, Standing Rock Agency, Crow Creek Agency and Lower Brule Agency. He was part of special Operations held with District One and was always there when called upon. Officer Littlewind ended his watch providing services to his people of Spirit Lake Nation. Bundy loved to travel to Pow-Wows and meet a lot of new and old friends. He enjoyed his Indian Singing and Bundy started at a very young age and would be outside with his stick and box singing Indian songs and sang until the time of his death. Bundy was a very loving and caring and devoted father who protected and fought for his four loving children who meant more than anything to Bundy! Bundy is going to be greatly missed by his babies. Bundy is survived by his three loving special sons, Dylan Blake, LaVern Jr. and Jerome and one very special daughter, Raileigh LittleWind; He is also survived by his brothers David (Rose) Sherman Sr. and Tyson (Stephanie) Sherman and one very special sister Rayone Cissy Sherman; half brothers Joe Sherman and Mervel Sherman; special cousin and sister-in-law, Rose Sherman; very special nephews David Sherman Jr. “AKA DJ” and Davin J. Boss Sherman and one very special niece Felicia R. Sherman and other nieces Rosemarie Sherman, Rae Onna Sherman, Jaleisha Sherman; nephews Gabriel Sherman and Dreymond Sherman; adopted mother Katherine Howard; adopted brothers Ivan Lovejoy Sr., Melvin Peoples Jr., Ralph Peoples and Audie Swiftbird; adopted sister Clarise (Don) Robertson-Brownshield and aunt Cora Rose Sherman. Bundy was preceded in death by his loving angel mother, Rosemarie “Bess” LittleWind and loving father Vincent Raymond Sherman who loved and cared dearly about Bundy; grandpas Joseph Littlewind and Cornelius Kirk; aunts Catherine, Vivian and Irene Littlewind; uncles John, Basil, Lawrence and Ambrose Littlewind; nephews Aaron and Mitchell Littlewind, twins Rayshaun and Tyson Sherman Jr. Extended Chaske family members who survive; father Vincent Norman; uncles Winfield Chaske Sr. and John Chaske; aunt Millicent Little; brothers Gilbert Chaske Sr., Lee Lenoir, Leroy Lenoir; sisters Jackie Lenoir, Denise Chaske and Rose Azure and Chaske family members who precede Bundy in death are mother Berniece Chaske; uncle Joseph Alfred Chaske Jr.; aunt Darlene Chaske. Honored Casket Bearers will be the Spirit Lake Nation Singers Audie Swiftbird, Ivan Lovejoy Sr., Daryl ThreeIrons, Cornell “Duutes” Kirk, Kris White, Greg Holybull, Brookes GoodBird and Dion “Stitch” Jackson and the District I Fort Totten Agency Police Department, Raymond Cavanaugh, Jerard Hoeger, LaRon Greywater, Tresa Longie, Justin Swain, Johnny Durant, Clifton Story, Marty Foote, Jerry Lenoir, Jacquie Demarce, Sharene Harrison, Angela Leaf, Cody LaRoque, Jaime Burdick, Alieu Jallow, George Demarce, Mary Lohnes, Jesse McKay III, Tony Rowe, Anita Aabrekke and Denice Grassrope. Funeral Services for Bundy will be on Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the Four Winds High School, Fort Totten, ND. The Wake will also be held at Four Winds on Monday, September 29th beginning at 4:00 p.m. The procession to Four Winds will leave at 3:00 p.m. from the former Wal-Mart.
