Theophile Duane Martin, 81 of Devils Lake, ND passed away Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at Mercy Hospital in Devils Lake, ND.
Theophile Duane Martin was born February 27, 1933 in Devils Lake, ND, the son of Joseph M. Martin and Virginia Bercier. Duane lived with his parents until he was 29 years old. He lived at the Good Samaritan Centers in Noonan, ND and Mott, ND before being transferred to the Grafton State School in 1976. In 1981 he was transferred to San Haven, and in 1987 he began receiving services from Lake Region Corporation in Devils Lake. He currently lived in an Intermediate Care Facility with Lake Region Corporation, and attended Day Supports at his home.
Duane enjoyed singing, Christmas, animals, attending church, going out for coffee, and collecting caps. He enjoyed going on out of town trips, especially shopping trips to purchase new clothes and personal items. He was always proud of the new items he had purchased. He was a pleasant man, and interacted well with staff and peers. He enjoyed visits from his sisters and brothers.
Duane is survived by his brother, Walter; sisters Eugenia “Maggie” Martin and Frances Shafer. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Louis Martin, Joseph Martin and sister Irene Houle.
A Graveside Service will be held at the Devils Lake Cemetery on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at 11:30 a.m. with a luncheon to follow in the Red Willow Room at Spirit Lake Casino.
