Agnes E. (Hagen) Toso, 94 of Devils Lake, ND passed away on Thursday, October 16, 2014 at The Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd, New Rockford, ND.
Funeral Services for Agnes will be held on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Devils Lake with Reverend Cassie Sauter officiating. Burial will be in the Devils Lake Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Monday from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Visitation on Tuesday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.
Agnes Elida, daughter of Oline (Nordhaugen) and Ansten O. Hagen was born on March 24, 1920 at rural Tioga, ND. She was educated in the rural Lindahl Consolidated School and Tioga High School, graduating in 1938.
She worked on various farms during harvest & after graduating she worked in Williston for 2 years. In 1941 she came to Devils Lake to help her sister Jennie Anderson on the farm. She later did housework in Devils Lake until she went to work at J.C. Penny’s in 1943 as a window dresser and interior decorator. In 1950 she married Orvin M. Toso. They had 4 children. In 1966 she went to work as an aid to the mentally handicapped and later became director of a school for the Adult Mentally handicapped. She thoroughly enjoyed both jobs. She was an aid at Sweetwater School and at Central School food service. She retired from there in 1982.
Agnes loved to bake and cook for her family and friends. She also enjoyed entertaining. She loved spending time with her family. In her spare time she worked crossword puzzles, read, crocheted and played cards. She was a charter member of Our Savior’s church and a member of the Hannah Circle and a volunteer in the quilting group, lefse baking and the potato klub feed.
She is survived by her children: James Devils Lake, ND, Robert (Alaine) Jamestown, ND and Steven Devils Lake, ND; son-in-law Scott Kelley Grand Forks, ND; three granddaughters: Christie Hansen, Grand Forks, Stephanie (Kelly) Hochhalter, Hebron, Jennifer (Don) Toso-Kenna ,Fargo; four great-grandchildren, Gage, Kassdy, Harlee and Kaelen and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her dear daughter Mavis Kelley, which broke her heart, her husband Orvin, her parents, and her 4 brothers and 3 sisters.
Music will be provided by Alvern Anderson Wentzel, vocalist and Lynda Pearson, pianist. Pallbearers will be, Bruce Hagen, Kelly Hochhalter, Don Kenna, Scott Kelley, Darren Peterson, Ron Toso and Scott Hoiberg. Reading Scripture will be Rev. Dale Peterson.
