HENRY "HANK" R. FISHER

Henry “Hank” Raymond Fisher On November 26, 2014, Hank Fisher peacefully passed away at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Born January 1, 1935 in San Francisco CA, he was 1 month shy of his 80th birthday. Hank grew up in Stockton, CA, and enjoyed hunting and fishing with his mother and father, Bertha E., and Delbert Fisher in the “gold” country of the central Sierra Nevada’s and within the San Joaquin Valley of central California. After he graduated from Edison High school in 1953, he immediately joined the U.S. Navy where he served for 4 years on active duty, and 4 years in the Navy Reserve. While in the Navy, he met and fell in love with Mary D. Ince, a Navy nurse, and married the love of his life July 20, 1957 at the naval hospital in San Diego, CA. They remained faithful to each other for 57 years. Teaching was another of Hank’s passions; he attended Sacramento State University and graduated with a Bachelors of Arts degree in Education in 1963, and began his teaching career at Charles M. Goethe middle school in Sacramento. He taught English, History, and Reading at John Barrett Junior High in Carmichael CA from 1967 until his retirement in 1995. While at Barrett, he especially enjoyed coaching boy’s football and girl’s basketball, and made lasting friendships with many of those students and fellow teachers. He and Mary remained in Sacramento until 2012, but moved to Devils Lake, North Dakota to be closer to his son and daughter-in law. With daily visits from his children and his wife by his side, this brought him great joy late in his life until his passing. Hank was especially grateful to the staff at Lake Country Manor of Devils Lake for their care and support to both he and Mary. He is survived by wife Mary, son and daughter-in-law Mark and Holly Fisher (Wee) of Devils Lake, granddaughter- in-law Brooke Capach (Wee) of Dover DE (originally of Devils Lake), and two great granddaughters, Liberty and Haley Capach, also of Dover DE. He was preceded in death by his Mother and Father, and daughter Lisa Michelle Fisher of Sacramento, CA. In lieu of funeral services, condolences can be sent to Mary D. Fisher and family, 1332 10th St. NE, Apt. 202, Devils Lake, North Dakota, 58301.
