James Francisco Diaz, 50 (He Rides His Spirit Horse) of Fort Totten, ND was born on August 17, 1964 in Portland, Oregon and joined many loved ones in the Spirit World on Wednesday, December 3, 2014. He passed away at his home in the loving care of family and Altru Hospice. The Wake for Frank will be held at CrowHill Recreation Center, rural Fort Totten on Friday, December 12, 2014 beginning at 4:30 p.m. The procession to CrowHill will leave at 3:30 p.m. on Friday from the former Wal-Mart. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. also at CrowHill Recreation Center. Frank will be laid to rest in St. Jerome’s Catholic Cemetery, rural Fort Totten. James Francisco, son of Porfirio and Mary Louise (Brown) Diaz lived for a short time in Portland then the family moved to the CrowHill/Fort Totten area where he would live, work and raise his family through the years. He attended Four Winds School and High School then continued his education at United Tribes in Bismarck where he earned his GED and also received training in building construction. He returned to the Spirit Lake Nation and worked for a time on road construction and also in housing construction and remodeling. James loved working with tools; building projects, remodeling, tinkering with cars and fixing bikes. He had a talent for being able to fix most anything he worked on. He enjoyed fishing and loved spending time with his sons, especially William and Anthony. He loved all of his family, Andres, Jamison, John and his precious daughter, Delisha. James always held his oldest daughter and all of his grandkids in his heart. Frank may be gone, but he will never be forgotten. Frank is survived by his loving family. The love of his life, Janette; daughter Delisha Tomahawk-Burns, sons Andres Tomahawk, Jamison Tomahawk, John William Diaz and Anthony Diaz; godson Treigh White Buffalo; he had great love for all of his family and he had his favorites including Jaden Greywind and family, Shelton Ducheneaux, Savannah Ducheneaux, Gabriel “Dough Boy” Blueshield, Misty Gourd, Whisper Gourd, Little Joseph and Marlene Demarce; his beloved sisters, brother, uncles, aunts and their families Orailia Diaz and family, Irene Diaz and family, Porfirio Diaz, Anthony “Frenchie” Brown and family, Christine Alex and family, Lorraine Greybear and family; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law Sharon Feather and family, Hope Tomahawk and family, Faith Ducheneaux and family and William Tomahawk Jr. and family. He joins in the Spirit World his parents; daughter Julia Mary Diaz; sister Joanne Dogskin and adopted grandson Malachi Dunn. Active Pallbearers for Frank will be Louie “Hopsty” DuBois, Alfred Littlewind, Chico Diaz, Ivan Lonechild Jr., Kelly Stone, Royce McKay, Cyril Littlewind and Russell McDonald. Honorary Bearers are Marty and Georgia Alex Family, Nancy and Jerry Robertson Family, Emma and DJ Thumb Family, Cora Whiteman Family, Jodi and Harry Burns Family, Dave and Sherry Longie Family, Frenchie Brown Family, George and Anita Green Family, Reba Mack Family, Charlie Morin Family, Mena Del la paz Family, Russell and Francine McDonald, Sharon Feather, Darren McKay, Four Winds Elementary and Middle School Staff for their support to the family. All Drum Groups and Singers are welcome to share their music in memory of Frank.
