Virgil B. Winnegge, 82 of Jamestown, ND formerly of Devils Lake, ND passed away on Friday evening, December 5, 2014 at Hi Acres Manor in Jamestown.
Funeral Services for Virgil will be held on Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Gilbertson Funeral Home Chapel, Devils Lake with Reverend Jeff Kapelle, Pastor New Life Fellowship Church, Hamar, ND officiating. Virgil will be laid to rest in the Devils Lake Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until time of service.
Virgil Benjamin, son of Ben and Annie (Wedeking) Winnegge was born on May 30, 1932 in Lawton, ND. Virgil was the youngest of ten children in the Winegee family. The lived with the family in several locations in North Dakota including the farm at Lawton, Starkweather, Derrick, Edmore and Devils Lake.
The family moved to Devils Lake in 1949 and Virgil helped his parents through the years. His father passed away in 1962 and his mother in 1976 so Virgil then made his home with Bob and Mae Falk in Courteney, North Dakota working in several restaurants and businesses in Jamestown.
Virgil has made Hi Acres Care Center in Jamestown his home since Bob and Mae passed away.
Virgil enjoyed playing card games, playing marbles and gardening. He loved spending time with family and friends and participating in family gatherings, travel and helping with chores around the house and farm.
Virgil is survived by his sister Ethel Uhlenkamp of Starkweather; many nieces, nephews and their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Ernest, Leonard, Paul, Charlie and Fritz Winnegge and sisters Mamie Rader, Violet Rader and Velma Smith.
Serving as Casket Bearers for Virgil will be Jim Geisen, Justin Kempel, Lowell Rader, Ron Rader, Lloyd Winnegge and Ray Uhlenkamp.
