Lawrence R. “LR” Greene, 73 of St. Michael, ND passed away early Saturday morning, December 6, 2014 at the Spirit Lake Casino, rural St. Michael.
Visitation for Larry will be at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, on Wednesday, December 10th beginning at 5:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Scripture Service at 8:00 p.m. The procession to St. Michael will leave at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, from the former Wal-Mart.
Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Thursday, December 11, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. also at St. Michael’s Catholic Church with Father Paul Schuster celebrating the Mass. Larry will be laid to rest in St. Michael’s Cemetery.
Lawrence, son of Warren and Agnes (Longie) Greene was born on September 14, 1941 in Fort Totten, ND. He was raised in the Fort Totten and St. Michael area attending school in Fort Totten and Maddock. After high school, Larry attended Barber College in Fargo, ND.
Larry was united in marriage to Myrna Cavanaugh on June 15, 1963. In 1972, Lawrence began working in BIA Law Enforcement, then BIA Facilities in the fall of 1983 and retired on 2004. Larry also worked for the Summer Youth Program and Tribal Health. In May of 2010, he began working at the Spirit Lake Casino and Resort where he was employed at the time of his death.
Larry loved being busy and when he wasn’t working he enjoyed cooking and sharing his creations with family and friends. He kept up with his barbering skills by cutting hair for a select few family members and friends. In his younger years, hunting and bowling were frequent pastimes. He was frequently found tinkering with cars, motors, anything that needed fixing.
Larry was a dedicated employee, devoted husband, Dad, grandpa and brother and a special friend to many. He will be greatly missed.
Lawrence is survived by his wife, Myrna “Torchy”; daughters Lori (Frank) Gourd, Jacquie (George) DeMarce, Cassandra Cloud and Jocelyn (Erwin) Plenty Chief; sons Sam (Starr) Cloud, George Alberts, Dale (Jessica) Alberts, Maurice (Lisa) Alberts and Phillip (Laurielle) Alberts; fifty-three grandchildren; six great grandchildren including special granddaughters Brittany Omen and Drew DeMarce and special grandsons Mitchell Greene, George DeMarce III, Frank Gourd Jr., Lance Gourd and Warren Greene; brothers Orrin Greene, Warren “Jimmy” Greene and Francis “Frank” Greene; many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents Warren and Agnes; sister Viola Greene and nephews Allen Greg Greene and Curtis Greene.
Active Pallbearers will be Rob Longie, Jason Greene, Frank Gourd, Sam Cloud, Bernard “Eddie” Greene, Aaron Green, JJ Greene and Mitchell Greene.
Honorary Bearers will be Larry’s Co-Workers at the Spirit Lake Casino and Resort and the BIA and all of Larry’s family and friends.
