ALICE LATURNUS

Alice Laturnus, 89 of Devils Lake formerly of Rolla and Cando, ND passed away on Friday, December 19, 2014 at Heartland Care Center, Devils Lake. The celebration of Alice’s life will begin on Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at 12:00 noon at St. Joseph Parish Center, Devils Lake with a meal and time of fellowship with family and friends. At 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday a Rosary for the repose of Alice’s soul, will be recited in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake, led by Julius Senger. The Mass of the Resurrection for Alice will be celebrated at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 23rd with the Very Reverend C.F. Wilhelm celebrating the Mass. Alice will be laid to rest in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Cando, ND in the spring. (Marie) Alice Turcotte was born on September 7, 1925 at Rolla, ND. She was one of three children born to Albert and Amanda (Genereux) Turcotte. She grew up in the St. John, ND area and was educated in Rolette County. Alice was united in marriage to Frank J. Laturnus on September 29, 1947 at St. John. They established their home on a farm near Cando. They lived, farmed side by side and raised their children there. In 1979 they moved to Rolla, ND where Alice worked in the Dietary Department of Presentation Hospital. Alice was a talented seamstress and sewed almost all of her own clothing and for others. She was a gardener and all it meant, canning, weeding, etc. Alice’s priorities were faith, family and friends. Alice was a devoted farm wife and loving mother and grandmother. She especially treasured time spent with her grandchildren. She and Frank were blessed to celebrate 65 years of love and marriage prior to Frank’s death on Christmas Eve, December 24th, 2012. Alice was a faithful member of St. Joachim’s Catholic Church, Rolla and Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cando and always very active in the Altar Society. Alice is survived by her son Charles Laturnus, Roseville, CA; daughters Theresa (Robert) Jorgenson, McClusky, ND and Helen (Owen) Berg, Langdon, ND; grandchildren Douglas (Lori) Jorgenson, David Jorgenson, Daryl (June) Jorgenson, Lisa (David) Elverud and Stephanie (Keith) Mikkelsen, Casey Berg, Sarah (Jason) Schill; great grandchildren Devin, Reese, Derek, Danyel, Hannah, Allie, Kyle, Cayden, Cohl, Brennan and Addison; many dear in-laws and nieces, nephews and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frank; brothers Amie Turcotte and Gilbert Turcotte and many beloved in-laws. Casket Bearers for Alice will be her grandchildren Douglas, David, Daryl, Lisa, Stephanie, Casey and Sarah. Gift Bearers will be Richard and MaryAnn Ginther.
