ZELLA A KUENEMAN

Zella A. Kueneman, 85 of Rolla, ND formerly of Devils Lake, ND passed away on Monday, December 22, 2014 at St. Andrew’s Hospital in Bottineau, ND. Mass of the Resurrection for Zella will be held on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake with burial in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Monday, December 29th from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Scripture Service at 4:00 p.m. and a Time of Sharing and Remembrance at 7:00 p.m. Visitation on Tuesday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral Mass. Zella Antoinette, daughter of Anthony and Lena (Villineauve) Koehmstedt was born on July 12, 1929 on her grandparents’ farm, rural Olga, ND. Zella grew up in the Olga/Walhalla/Langdon area and attended Country School in the Walhalla area. While working in a café in Langdon, Zella met her future husband, Frank Simon Kueneman and they were united in marriage on December 27, 1948. They established their home on a farm in rural Munich, living, working and beginning their family there. In 1961, they moved to Devils Lake and Zella continued as the devoted wife and loving caring mother to her eight children. After only 38 years of love and marriage, Frank died on February 26, 1987. Zella continued to make her family a priority and was so proud of each and every one of them and her beautiful grandchildren. In 1994, Zella moved to Rolla to be closer to family. When Zella had a little free time she enjoyed quilting and always had a large garden. She tended her garden with care and many shared in the delicious final product she canned or baked. Zella loved to travel and spent many winters in Florida and Arkansas with family. Zella’s most precious hours were spent with her children and grandchildren. Zella was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Ann’s Oblates and was very active in Right to Life. We have lost someone very special to us and she will be in our hearts forever. She is survived by her loving family. Her children Donna (Aldon) Drewes, Detroit Lakes, MN, George (Jeanette) Kueneman III, Lander, WY, Bonnie (Mark) Lody, Caledonia, MS, Millie (Mike) Casserly, Merritt Island, FL, Mary (Tom) Zimmerman, Minot, ND, Frank M. (Sue) Kueneman also Merritt Island, Carol (Paul) Weil, Lander, Lisa (Merlin) Pays, Belcourt, ND; twenty-one grandchildren; two step grandsons; twenty six great grandchildren; brothers Allen Koehmstedt, Marysville, WA and Albert (Jane) Koehmstedt, Walhalla, ND and sister Helene Hamilton also of Marysville; many nieces, nephews and cousins survive. Zella was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frank; grandchildren Kris Kueneman and Kevin Fossen; great grandchild Lily; son-in-law Mark Lody; brothers Frances Villineauve, Louis, Vernon and Wallace Koehmstedt; sisters Catherine Fickert and Marcella Fickert. Serving as Casket Bearers will be her grandsons Brandon, Devin, Tyler and Ian Pays, Dalton Weil, Chancellor and Rylie DeVier. Gift Bearers will be granddaughters Seanna and Michelle Pays and reading the Scriptures will be Lanelle Pays and Anthea Jeanotte
