Betty L. Wolf, 83, of Devils Lake, formerly of Hampden, ND passed away on Monday, December 29, 2014 at Essentia Health in Fargo, ND.
Funeral Services for Betty will be on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Free Lutheran Church, Devils Lake with Rev. Gary Fulsebakke officiating. Burial will be in the Storlie Cemetery, rural Hampden, ND.
Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Monday, January 5th from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation on Tuesday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.
Betty Lou, daughter of Jesse Carl and Mable Clare (Van Velzer) Grimsley was born on October 24, 1931 at Devils Lake, ND. She attended Washington Elementary School and later Devils Lake Central High School.
Betty was united in marriage to Marvin Wolf on September 29, 1954 at Crookston, MN. They established their home at Hampden, and Betty and Marvin farmed there for over 41 years.
While living in Hampden, Betty was an active member of Zoar Free Lutheran Church, the North Star Rebekah Lodge of Hampden, serving as Past Noble Grand. She was a member and served as Past President and Royal Member of the Hay-Overbo American Legion Auxiliary Post #266, and when the children were younger she volunteered as a 4-H Leader. Betty also was a Past President of the United Methodist Church Sunday School of Hampden. After moving to Devils Lake, Betty again became very involved in her church, joining Christ Free Lutheran Church.
After Marvin’s death in 2001 Betty moved to Devils Lake and became very active in her volunteer work for RSVP. She took great delight in going to the public library to read to the children or to the area nursing homes to assist the residents to play BINGO. Betty was active at the Senior Center and enjoyed baking for fundraisers and other activities in the community. Betty was a member of the Red Hat Society and looked forward to the luncheons and activities with her friends there.
Betty was a devoted mother, loving grandmother and great-grandmother. She had a great love of children and devoted her life to her family as well as children of the church by teaching Sunday school. Betty was a woman of great faith and enjoyed the fellowship of her church family. She touched many lives and will be greatly missed.
The family would like to say a special thank you to Colleen Jeramo for the dedication and undying love shown our mom who in these last month’s sat by her side for endless hours keeping her company and comforting her, seeing her through many lonely hours, helping her to forget the pain, and being there when we could not. Colleen you are an angel on earth and there are just no words to describe what you mean to us.
Betty is survived by her loving family. Her daughter Karen (John) Bjorgo, Grand Forks, ND; sons Marvin “Doug” (Terri) Wolf, Underwood, ND, Bruce Allen (JoEllen) Wolf, Minot, ND, Kevin (Donna) Wolf, Devils Lake and David Keith Wolf, Hampden, ND; nine grandchildren Michael Bjorgo: Kyle Wolf, Erin Wolf: Candace (Richard) Barlow, Barry Wolf: Brandt (Arlene) Wolf, Keaton Wolf: Tanner Wolf, Sydney Wolf; nine great grandchildren Carson, Davis, Mykha, Julia, Alyse, Aydan, Keathan, Poe, Verona; sisters-in-law Viola Grimsley, Minnesota and Joanne Wolf, Fargo, ND; many beloved nieces, nephews and their families.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husband Marvin on July 18, 2001; sister Eileen Thomas and brothers Willard, Everett, Clinton and Melvin Grimsley.
Casket Bearers for Betty will be her grandsons Michael, Brandt, Barry, Kyle and Keaton and grandson-in-law Richard. Honorary Bearers will be grandchildren Erin, Candace, Tanner and Sydney.
