DOROTHY A MOSHIER

Dorothy A. (Mikkelson) Moshier, 91 of Devils Lake, ND passed away Monday morning, January 19, 2015 at Mercy Hospital, Devils Lake. Funeral Services for Dorothy will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, Devils Lake with Reverend Lori Broschat officiating. Dorothy Allyn Mikkelson was born on January 16, 1924 in Warwick, ND to J. Harold and Theodora (Eklund) Mikkelson. She attended grade school in Warwick and Minnwaukan, ND. The family moved to Jamestown in 1937 where Dorothy graduated from Jamestown High School with the class of 1941. She continued her education at Jamestown College. Dorothy married LT. William Scales of Los Angeles, CA at Kirkland Field, Albuqueque, New Mexico on April 1, 1944. While on active duty in Germany during World War II, he was killed in action on Christmas Eve, December 24, 1944. Dorothy returned to North Dakota and continued her education at Jamestown College, receiving a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1946. While in Jamestown, Dorothy met CPT. John “Jack” Moshier who was home on terminal leave and they were united in marriage in Jamestown on September 30, 1946. They established their home in Vallejo, CA. In 1951, Jack joined Dorothy’s father in Mikkelson Implement, Devils Lake, ND where they established their home throughout the years and here Reed Allen was born, completing their family. When the children were of school age, Dorothy began her career in the business world and worked in several establishments, ending as a business manager of Lake Region Human Services Center, retiring in 1982. Jack passed away in 1974. Dorothy’s sister joined her in 1976 and they shared a home in Devils Lake and a winter home in Sun City, Arizona for the next 25 years. Dorothy was a life-long member of United Methodist Church where she was active as a choir member and substitute organist. She also enjoyed membership in the Devils Lake Music Club, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Women’s Club, Pioneer Daughters, Ladies Golf Association in Devils Lake and Sun City and also played in several bridge clubs. When time allowed, she loved to sew and do needlework, was an avid reader and truly enjoyed the game of golf. Dorothy is survived by her loving family. Her children Ray (Diane) Moshier of Little Falls, MN and Sun City, AZ, Marjorie (Thore) Fossum, Poulsbo, WA and Reed (Nicola) Moshier, South Boston, VA; grandchildren Michael (April) Moshier, Mark (Kelli) Moshier, Monica Moshier, Eric John Fossum and K.C. Fossum; great grandchildren twins Jackson and Miles Moshier and twins Zachary and Aiden Moshier and Holley, Brett and Cara Peterson; brother Dean Harold Mikkelson, Oklahoma City, OK and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Bill and Jack and sister Marjorie Mikkelson.
