Deloris E. Nelson, 84, Devils Lake, ND passed away Thursday, February 19, 2015 at her home surrounded by her loving family with Altru Home Hospice Care attending.
Visitation for Deloris will be at Gilbertson Funeral Home on Monday February 23, 2015 from 5 pmuntil 7:00 p.m. with a Time of Remembrance at 7 pm. with music by the GOSPALS-Irv Thompson, Dennis Lysne, Garland Sagen, Jim Thompson, Dennis Aardahl, Arvin Rohrer, Dennis Clemenson, Jim Beatty, Jamie Travers, Phil Langerud and Tom Wade accompanied by Jean Aardahl.
Funeral services will be at St Olaf Lutheran Church, Devils Lake at 10:30 am Tuesday, February 24 with visitation one hour before the service. Pastor Jeff Nicla will officiate.
Long-time family friend Irving Thompson will provide music accompanied by Lynda Pearson. Interment will take place following the service in the Devils Lake Cemetery and lunch and fellowship will follow at St. Olaf. Active Pallbearers are her grandsons Travis Nelson, Matthew Nelson, Bill Thomason and Steven R. Thomason. Honorary Pallbearers are her seven siblings.
Deloris Edith Moschell was born on the family farm December 18, 1930 in Fedora, South Dakota to Wilhelm and Alma (Stangohr) Moschell. She graduated with the class of 1948 at Fedora High School. During high school, she was a cheerleader, basketball player and worked on the family farm alongside her 7 siblings. She graduated from General Beadle State Teachers College, Madison SD and taught 3rd grade in Brookings SD.
Deloris met the love of her life- Bob Nelson at a Christmas dance in Carthage, SD and they were united in marriage December 9, 1951 in Howard, SD. She was the proud mother of Kathy and Michael and grandmother to four grandsons and three great grandchildren. Deloris and Bob relocated several times and came to live in Devils Lake in 1975 when Bob was employed with Farmland Industries. Deloris shared her wonderful sense of fashion while she worked at Mann's Department Store, Braun's and Kelly's Apparel.
When she and Bob relocated once again to Lexington, Nebraska, she opened up an antique shop and became an expert in antiques. Deloris and Bob returned to Devils Lake after Bob retired and opened up Memories Antiques in Devils Lake. She shared her expertise in antiques with everyone she met at auctions and was often called upon during the auction for her opinion on an antique. Deloris always had her beloved auction helper-Bob at her side. She enjoyed sharing her love of baking with her decorated sugar cookies at every family holiday. Attending her grandchildren's activities meant the world to her. Deloris loved to watch Twins Baseball and UND Hockey. She liked to go to rummage sales and auctions and she was an expert flower gardener.
She enjoyed membership at St. Olaf Lutheran Church and was a 40 year member of Devils Lake Elks Lodge where back in the day Deloris and Bob enjoyed dancing the night away.
Loving family members left to mourn her passing are her husband Bob, daughter Kathy Thomason, Altura, MN; son Mike and his wife Gabe, Devils Lake ND; , 4 grandsons, Steven Thomason, Redmond, WA, Bill Thomasonand wife Rachel, Bismarck ND, Matthew Nelson and his wife Autumn, Grand Forks ND, and Travis Nelson and his fiance' Amber, Grand Forks ND. Great grandchildren Henry and Simon Thomason and Aubrey Nelson; siblings, Elda Briggs, husband Raman, Kokomo, IN, Billy Moschell, Fedora SD, Myrna Moore, husband Howard ,Artesian SD, Richard Moschell, wife Bonnie, Kenosha WI, sisters-in-law Lavonne Garry, Rochester MN and Vera Warnke, Huron SD and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Deloris is preceded in death by her parents, siblings Harold, Alan and Ardath, and sisters-in-law Delores and Karen.
