June Marie Elizabeth Strand

June M.E. Strand, 84 of Devils Lake, ND passed away on Friday, February 20, 2015 at the Good Samaritan Center, Devils Lake in the loving care of family and Altru Hospice. June Marie Elizabeth, daughter of Robert D. and Grace Elizabeth (Monaque) Haggerd was born on November 2, 1930 in Crescent City, Florida. At a young age she moved with her parents to Laporte, MN where she was reared and educated. She met the love of her life in Grand Rapids, MN and she and Howard C. Strand were married on November 18, 1947. They established their home in Lake George, MN for a time then moved to Edmore, ND where they lived, worked and raised their children. They later moved to Devils Lake. Harold died in 2005 and June continued to live in the same home until October of 2014 when she entered the Good Samaritan Center. June was a loving wife and mother and hard worker. She worked at the Hamburger Shop, the Hole Restaurant, City Center Motel, Ahoe’s Rest Home and then at Memorial Day Care, later called the Jigsaw Junction. For 19 years, June was very active in the Foster Grandparent Program at Memorial Day Care, Heartland Day Care, School for the Deaf Day Care and College Care for Kids before retiring due to illness. June was the last living Foster Grandparent of Memorial Day Care. June loved tending her flowers, doing crossword puzzles and word searches. June always made sure the TV was on for Days of Our Lives, The Waltons, The Virginian and Kathie Lee and Hoda. But her most treasured moments were those spent with her precious family. June’s loving family include her children Betty Schwan, Michigan, ND, Elizabeth Strand, Harold Strand Jr. and Richard (Rene) Strand all of Devils Lake; grandchildren Lynn Eaton, Fargo, Andriea Strand, Devils Lake, Carl Strand, Minot, Samantha Strand and Michaelah Strand both of Rolla, ND; great grandchildren Robert (Angie) Schneider, James, Donna and Jorja Eaton, Jasper and Caleb Carlson, Brantley Strand, Jocelyn, Xavier and Malachi Strand; great great grandchildren Emily, LillyAnn and Maxwell Schneider, Lilliana Sorlie, Krystal and Raymond Knutson Jr. and one soon to be born; brother Raymond Haggerd, Grand Rapids, MN; many nieces and nephews and their families. June was preceded in death by her parents; husband Howard; grandchildren Donna Beck, James Beck, Anthony Schneider and Jennifer Strand; brothers Harry and George Haggerd; in-laws Gilbert and Gilgjor Strand and her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Tuesday, February 24th at 10:00 a.m. at the church with Very Reverend C.F. Wilhelm celebrating the Mass. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation for June will be held on Monday, February 23, 2015 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Scripture Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation on Tuesday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral Mass. Casket Bearers will be Robert Schneider, James Eaton, Raymond Knutson, Christopher Christie, Gordon Tostenson and Carl Strand. Reading the Scriptures will be Donna Eaton and the Gift Bearers will be Robert Schneider, Samantha Strand and James Eaton.
