Betty A. Severtson

Betty A. (Saunders) Severtson, 93 of Doyon, ND passed away on Monday morning, March 16, 2015 at the Lakota Good Samaritan Center, Lakota, ND. Funeral Services for Betty will be held on Monday, March 23, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Doyon with Reverend Don Reynolds officiating. Burial will be in the Bethlehem Cemetery in the spring. Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Sunday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Visitation on Monday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral service. Betty Ann, daughter of George and Annie (Anderson) Saunders was born on January 5, 1922 on the family farm, west of Doyon, ND. She attended Doyon Public School and graduated from Doyon High School with the class of 1940. Betty was united in marriage to Kenneth Severtson on June 5, 1941 at Lakota. While Kenneth served his country during World War II, he and Betty lived for a time in Colorado. After his discharge they returned to Doyon and were engaged in farming for nineteen years. The family then did custom combining for several years until Kenneth passed away on July 2, 1970. Betty’s faith and her determination kept her going through the years. In addition to caring for her family, she was the caregiver, the cook, the housekeeper and whatever other chores that needed doing, for her Uncle and Aunt Gust and Rhoda Nelson and her cousin Raymond Nelson for 30 years. Betty was not afraid of hard work and was still push mowing her lawn, tending gardens and flower beds at the age of 85. She was such a talented cook and baker and nothing gave her more pleasure than a sit down meal with family and friends. When she had some time indoors, she was crocheting, knitting and working on other craft projects that she enjoyed. Her family was her pride and joy and she wanted to keep up with all the events of children and grandchildren. Betty was a baptized and confirmed member of Bethlehem Church. She was very active in the WELCA and served as the financial treasurer of the church for many years. We have lost someone so very special to us and too many, but her memory will live on in our hearts forever. Betty is survived by her son Ron and his wife Deborah Severtson of Doyon; daughter-in-law Grace Severtson, Corte Madera, CA; granddaughter Carmen (Chris Eckes) Severtson, Devils Lake and grandson Kevin Severtson also of Doyon; great grandchildren Kendra and C.J. Eckes and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Kenneth; son Darryl; sister Dorothy McAllister and brothers William Saunders and Percival Saunders. Casket Bearers will be Tracy Aronson, Paul Tronson, Terry Hayward, Donny Tronson, Jimmy Dimmler and Jack Stautz.
