Vincent F. Greyhorn Sr., “He ?a ka Wakan Mani” (Walking Sacred Elk)of rural St. Michael, ND passed away early Saturday morning, March 28, 2015 at Essentia Health in Fargo, ND with loving family at his side. He was 67.
The Wake for Vincent will be held at St. Michael’s Recreation Center on Monday, April 6, 2015 beginning at 5:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Scripture Service at 8:00 p.m. The procession to St. Michael will leave on Monday at 3:00 p.m. from the former Wal-Mart.
Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Tuesday, April 7th at 10:00 a.m. with Fr. Charles Leute celebrating the Mass. Vincent will be laid to rest in the Greyhorn Family Cemetery, rural St. Michael.
Vincent Francis Greyhorn was born on May 8, 1947 in Devils Lake, ND the son of Frank and Mary (Cavanaugh) Greyhorn. He attended school in Maddock and graduated in May of 1967. After graduating, Vincent took a job as a bus driver which he really enjoyed. He then was a driver for the CHR Program at Spirit Lake and later worked for Water Resources for the 4 Districts of the Spirit Lake Tribe. Vincent worked for 12 years in government service working in Reality. From 1997 to 2005, Vincent proudly served as the District Representative for St. Michael. Throughout the years, Vincent was a dedicated volunteer Fire Fighter for the Spirit Lake Tribe.
Vincent was united in marriage to his beloved Belva BirdHorse and they shared a beautiful life together, raising the children and enjoying time together with family and friends over these many years.
Some of Vincent’s hobbies were team roping, hunting, fishing and he loved spending time with family and his grandchildren. As a young man, Vincent enjoyed being a Traditional Dancer.
Vincent’s loving family include his wife Belva (BirdHorse) Greyhorn of 38 years; children Frances (Ralph) Greyhorn-Peoples, Olisa (Marvin) Greyhorn Charboneau, Belle (Dana) Lawrence, Tammy (Ed) Greyhorn VerMeer, Ginny (Jerry) Greyhorn Schultz, Melody (Rick) Lawrence and David Lawrence; sister Darlene Wadsworth; twenty-six grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren and two very special grandchildren Addison Greyhorn and Samoné Motley;
Vincent joins those who have gone before him. His parents Frank and Mary Greyhorn; sons Vincent Greyhorn Jr. and Lynn Lawrence; sister Madeline Vivier; brother William Greyhorn; brothers-in-law Kermit BirdHorse and Tony Wadsworth
