Delores C. Lunde

Delores C. Lunde, 86 of Devils Lake, ND passed away at the Heartland Care Center, Devils Lake in the loving care of her family on Thursday, April 9, 2015. Delores Crystal, daughter of Lewie and Christine (Rodland) Bracken was born on February 8, 1929 at rural Leeds, ND. She was born, reared and educated in the Leeds area, graduating from Leeds High School in 1947. She continued her education at Minot Teacher’s College, receiving her teaching certificate. She taught for several years in one-room schools in the Brinsmade and Leeds area. She taught for a few years at Churchs Ferry Public School and most recently had taught for many years with the Devils Lake Public School System as an elementary teacher. She retired in 1987. Along with teaching, raising her family and being an active community member, Delores continued to further her education for many summers throughout her teaching career. Delores was united in marriage to LeRoy Lunde on June 16, 1962 at Churchs Ferry. They established their home in Devils Lake and made it home through the years. Delores was always an active member of the community and her church, St. Olaf Lutheran Church and the WELCA. She enjoyed membership in the Retired Teachers Association, the Devils Lake and the New Rockford Eagles Auxiliaries and held all the local and state offices. She also served faithfully with the Tolna American Legion Auxiliary, Devils Lake Senior Center and RSVP. (Retired Senior Volunteer Program) Where she saw a need, Delores was there to lend a helping hand. When taking time for a little relaxation, Delores enjoyed playing BINGO, playing cards (pinochle) and especially spending time with her dear family and many friends. Delores faced each hardship with courage and faith and each person in her life with love. She will be so very missed. Delores is survived by her loving family. Her husband, LeRoy; two daughters Nancy and Tom Watt and Kristi Ystaas and Gary Johnson all of Devils Lake; grandchildren Brandon Padilla and Blake Watt, Shayna,, Brooke and Trentin Ystaas and great grandson Daxxon Ystaas; brothers Lyle (Harriet) Bracken, Leeds, Roger (Marcia) Bracken, Devils Lake, Gordon Bracken, Grafton, ND and Curtis (Beverly) Bracken also of Devils Lake; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Maryann and George Anas, California, Gloria Bracken, Montana, Doug Ealy, Las Vegas, NV and Carol Lunde, Minneapolis; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Orris and Orlando Bracken; sisters Irene Lysne and Helen Bracken. Funeral Services for Delores will be held on Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Devils Lake with Reverend Jeff Nicla officiating. Burial will be in the North Prairie Cemetery, rural Leeds. Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and on Wednesday at the church one hour prior to the funeral service. Casket Bearers will be Bruce Lysne, Steve Bracken, Richard Bracken, Rob Bracken, Brad Lysne, Randy Bracken and Lanny Bracken. Honorary Bearers are Delores’ Fellow Eagles Auxiliary Members and the Members of the Tolna American Legion Auxiliary. Music will be provided by Marla Luehring and Lynda Pearson.
