Mathew B. Jager, 86 of Devils Lake, ND passed away early Saturday morning, April 11, 2015 at the Good Samaritan Center, Devils Lake.
Funeral Services for Mathew will be held on Thursday, April 16th, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake with Deacon Gene Jager officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Devils Lake. Visitation will be held on Thursday morning beginning at 9:00 a.m. with a Rosary at 9:30 a.m.
Mathew, son of Frank and Barbara (Ochs) Jager was born on March 25, 1929 at Devils Lake, ND. He was the youngest of the nine children born to Frank and Barbara. He was reared on the family farm east of Devils Lake and attended Cato Township School.
Mathew spent much of his life on the family farm, first farming with his Dad and after his father’s death he continued the farming operation along with caring for his mother and in the later years his sister, Mary. Mathew eventually retired and moved to Devils Lake where he made his home at the time of his death.
Mathew was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, serving as an usher for over 25 years. He was a life member of the Knights of Columbus and was always willing to lend a helping hand to any needs of the church.
In his younger years, Mathew enjoyed hunting and fishing and the great outdoors. He also had enjoyed many years of traveling the Midwest with his good friend. He especially treasured time spent with family.
Mathew is survived by his many loving nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Stephina Braham, Fred Jager, Sebastian “Sy” Jager, Mary Jager, Mike Jager, Kay Thompson, John Jager and Joe Jager.
